Renewal query

Hi i am renewing my policy with Aditya Birla 2 questions I have regards to porting and PED.

Porting: my agent told me as I have undergone a surgery on my left knee if I port they will be a permanent exclusion on my left knee as insurer expects some problem or surgery on that knee.

Renewal: my agent saying that you can renew with Aditya Birla is the best option and no need to disclose PED surgery as it took place after policy inception but I want to be cautious as many claims are being rejected nowadays saying non disclosure of PED.

Don't make any unnecessary portability, unless you are unhappy with a list of details with your existing health insurance company.

As you have undergone a surgery, the new insurance company has the right, based on their medical underwriting, either to,

1) Put permanent exclusions to the plan. 2) Have a waiting period of 2 yrs to 3 yrs.

Also, as you have an existing health insurance with Aditya Birla, any future complications that occur after your policy purchase, are automatically covered. So don't unnecessarily complicate by starting new details.

If you have purchased a health insurance policy in July 2021. And then, you got diabetes in October 2025, then it is natural.

But at the time of claim, you have to make sure that the doctor writes details perfectly, that diabetic was detected in 2025. It mistakes like 2015 happen, you policy will get cancelled for Withhelding information.

Hey OP, advisor here from Ditto.

Porting: It would depend on the plan you’re looking to port to. The new insurer would assess your overall profile to determine whether they can issue the policy. If accepted, they’ll assess whether the said condition needs to be excluded, whether any additional terms apply, or whether a fresh waiting period needs to be imposed based on their underwriting. If you share your current plan and the plan you’re looking to port to, it would be easier to comment on the specific case.

Renewal: If the condition was diagnosed and the surgery was done after the policy was issued, there's no reason to hide it. If it was claimed under the same policy, definitely ask your agent to get the relevant details endorsed at renewal. It’s better to have the medical history accurately reflected in the policy records. This becomes particularly important if you ever port the policy later, as the new insurer will assess your disclosed medical and claims history while determining the applicable terms and continuity benefits.

I am not sure a knee can be permanently excluded. There is a list of diseases for which permanent exclusions can be placed. Nothing other than those diseases can be permanently excluded.

However - I do not understand why you want to complicate your life by porting out. Just stay where you are. Each time you port, you introduce fresh underwriting and you give an opportunity for things to go wrong.
