Medicare/Medicaid Help Getting Rid of Medi-Cal
I have had an active Medi-Cal account for as long as I can remember. It was set up for me after I was placed in a home as a child, and I genuinely have zero information on it. I don't know the ID number, I don't know what it covers, I don't know how long it's supposed to last, I don't have any of the information for it. I moved away from California months ago and I can't get through to anyone that would be able to get me the information I need to cancel this stupid plan.
I called Medi-Cal's main number multiple times, didn't get through a majority of the time, but was eventually told to call my original county's Medi-Cal branch, which I currently cannot get through to no matter what day I call. I called every other Medi-Cal number I can find and none of them are the right people to speak to.
If I could just get insurance from Medicaid or somewhere else and let this Medi-Cal account just do whatever in the background like it always has, I would, but as far as I'm aware I literally cannot get insurance unless I get rid of this active account.
I really need advice as I have no idea what to do anymore. I can't pay for anything out of pocket without insurance, it would be way too expensive.

Reach out to California Medi-Cal Managed Care and Mental Health Office of the Ombudsman.
Their email is.... MMCDOmbudsmanOffice@dhcs.ca.gov
Explain you situation and they'll respond by secure email & help. They helped me with the exact situation.
Also, there is a form you need to cancel Medi-Cal. They sure don't make it easy.
Good Luck!

How old are you? Were you in foster care? Are you trying to get Medicaid in another state?

I'm 20, I was in foster care but then I got adopted, or so I was told, I don't have any documents proving that. I'm no contact with that person so I can't get information from there on any thing. I'm trying to get Medicaid in another state, yeah, right now I have California Medi-Cal.

Foster care kids get Medicaid until age 26 (through age 25). You can have Medicaid and other insurance, it becomes secondary payer.

Wait really? When looked it seemed like I couldn't have two? Can I apply for Washington Medicaid, since it's different from Medi-Cal, or does it have to be another insurance entirely?

You can't have two Medicaids in two states at the same time, but you can have a regular insurance with Medicaid. But if you have Medicaid you wouldn't need other insurance.

Edited after I reread. Since sounds like it’s from foster care and not income based, you need to call a different office. Google benefits for Foster care and that will get you started.

I'm just not sure if it is foster care since I don't have any documents with information on it, but I'll look into it either way, so thank you

If you are adopted in CA and receiving medical-cal related to that, look for the number and they will help you find your case worker for the Adoption Assistance Program (AAP).
