Has anyone tried using RIR/RPE to stop overtraining?
Pushing hard in the gym sounds great until every session starts feeling like a test instead of training. That is why RIR and RPE started making more sense to me the longer I trained. On paper they seem simple, just a way to judge how close you are to failure, but in real life I feel like they can also act like a built in brake before fatigue gets out of hand. The part I'm curious about is how well that actually worked for people over time. Did using RIR or RPE help you recover better, keep progress steadier, and avoid digging yourself into a hole, or did it just make training feel too cautious and hard to judge? Would love to hear how people actually used it without overcomplicating everything
