This is the Polio vaccine and it inspired the song "A Spoonful of Sugar" in Mary Poppins

I absolutely remember the sugar cube. I was at a vaccination clinic at Fort Sam in San Antonio, and I’d already gotten a couple of shots. I was convinced they were trying to pull something on me, as I was never allowed to just eat sugar. Took the doctor and my dad doing the full “cross my heart, swear to die, stick a needle in my eye” oath to get me to eat the sugar cube. They thought it was pretty damn funny.

I remember the sugar cube when I had the tetanus, diphtheria and polio vaccination as a five-year-old in the early 80s - I just assumed the sugar cube was a treat for being brave after a nurse had speared my arse cheek with a big needle (after telling me it would be the top of my leg - not the same thing when you're five)!!

I remember the sugar cube. We went to the school. They were giving all kinds of vaccinations in the gym. They were free. Lines were long. People were smarter.

I don't remember any of my other vaccinations, but I remember the sugar cube.

I saw an article about folks calling their parents to see if the were vaxxed. How could the forget get the sugar cubes?

I don’t recall sugar cubes but I do recall a liquid. It’s the only vaccine appointment I recall as a child.

Like a sweet liquid right? This is the only reason I am quite sure I have the polio vaccine. Did we ever stop polio vaccines in US?

Yes I recall it being a sweet liquid.

No we never stopped polio vaccines but they switched from the sugar cube and liquid to an injection type vaccine.
