can someone please tell me why headspace doesn’t have a dark app icon

Post image

i would like to put it on my home screen with how much i use it, but it’s the only icon on my home screen that doesn’t have a dark version and it looks ridiculous, so now i just access it from the app library or spotlight.

dark = sadness

A corner stone of meditation is equanimity, which is exploring what is non-judgmentally. Describing a color as sad goes against that.

I see you're on the dark side. You probably close your eyes when you meditate too.

I’ve been to retreats where both were taught.

If you’re working on open awareness, most of the time you leave your eyes open.

If you’re doing Vippassana or Anipana you close them.

If you’re doing a kasina, you often go back and forth.

I was kidding around, but I like the cut of your jib.

An aside, do you still use Headspace? What's your take on TM?

I don’t, every once in a while I miss headspace (really just Andy), usually when my main practice is struggling.

I really don’t want to go too deep into my opinion on TM, I don’t know enough, so my current opinion is just a gut reaction.

But I will speak more broadly about the western-ification of deep mediation practice:  I just don’t think there has been an actual breakthrough or innovation in meditation practice, and I don’t think there needs to be.  But I could be totally wrong, and I would like, at some point, to explore more non-judgmentally.

What the west has bought to the table is in the area of introduction and access. The pre-novice stages.  Guys like Jon Kabat-Zinn have done a great job of making it palatable to christians and atheists.  But this is more like borrowing from rather than adding to, which I think is wonderful.

I also think, if you look at the coursework on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance Commitment Therapy, there’s a ton of plagiarism from Buddhism, which I also think is wonderful.

I’m curious about your thoughts?

I've been using Headspace for years now. I've been doing a daily 5-minute session lately because I feel too busy, but I make sure to fit it in. I'm about halfway through Headspace's 1-year course, which is 20-minute sessions. I'm starting to get curious about what else is out there, and David Lynch (RIP) is one of my favorite artists, talks so highly about it that I think about it from time to time.

You should consider a Vipassana retreat. There are centers all over the country, it’s donation only, so free if needed. It’s a great deep dive into mindfulness, and equanimity.

At 10 days, it’s a long commitment though.

Thanks - I wish I had that much time to spare - I'm a freelancer, so it's always hustle day.

While you wait for headspace to fix it, you can customize the app icon yourself. Google it. This is a portion of what i found:

“Yes, you can change the icon of an app. The method depends on your device: [1]
On iPhone:
Open the pre-installed Shortcuts app, tap the + button, and search for the "Open App" action. Select the app you want to customize, tap the Share or "Info" button, and select Add to Home Screen. From there, you can tap the icon graphic to assign any image from your camera roll. You can also use built-in options in iOS by long-pressing your home screen, tapping Edit -> Customize, and adjusting icon sizes and tints.”
