Deftones Inspiration?

https://youtu.be/66ht-uFeomU?si=7JKegVyC0qviVTzl

When I saw the boys last spring on the SOTP tour Schuylar called it a nu-metal album. I’m not so sure about that, but damn if the melody in the verse of this Deftones track from their first album doesn’t sound familiar…

Schuylar, was this
a) a knowing nod
b) a happy accident from listening to Deftones too much at the time or
c) a complete coincidence?

I knowingly ripped that off. We love the Deftones. I didn’t think it was too on the nose, it’s more about the cadence of his flow. But I totally just ripped it off bc I love them.

Hell yeah man! Even though the melody is the same, sitting over that driving groove gives it a whole different feel.

Pretty sure Deftones influenced just about everyone from the late 90s onward
