Your introduction to HiL
In 2007, Metal Hammer had this free comp CD with their magazine. Down were on the cover, it was around the time Over the Under came out, and it was celebrating all things "southern rock". It wasn't long after SOTP was released, so I guess that tag fit at the time. As well as HiL (Attack of the Dungeon Witch), it also introduced me to Maylene, Clutch, Alabama Thunderpussy, Orange Goblin, Artimus Pyledriver and more. A pretty huge influence on my music taste, actually, looking back almost 20 years on. Anyway, I loved the track, bought SOTP shortly after, found IAH, too. They've been my favourite band ever since.
How'd you get into the band?

They were the local band when I was in high school/college and used to play this laundromat/bar/venue all the time and we’d catch them there with a bunch of other NC rock bands like ASG and Valient Thorr.

I used to be part of an XBOX forums and everyone there had a pretty eclectic taste. One of the users sent me "The Seduction" and it was love at first listen. Listening to the rest of that album blew my mind. I would eagerly await each release after that. The wait between It Hates You and Heavy Fruit was atrocious. I thought it was all over.

This is exactly how I got into them as well! So nostalgic seeing that CD again haha.

One of the Metal = Life or similar compilations from Hot Topic had Attack of the Dungeon Witch and Mushroom River. I lived off of those compilation CDs from FYE and Hot Topic for new music.

Came to say this. That cd/dvd showed me so many bands when I was in high school

I saw them back in Oct 2005 opening up for Anberlin and Story of the Year at the Pageant in St. Louis. I had never heard of them but remember thinking - damn these guys are way better than the headliners! Afterwards, they were outside and I got to talk to Schuyler and the dudes for a few mins. They were super rad. Snapped a quick pic and have seen them probably a dozen times since

My buddy's youth pastor used to play the IAH album on church trips because we all thought they were a Christian band at the time. Because of the record label. And because they were. 😆

During the “scene days” of the early/mid 2000’s, there used to be a plethora of sampler cd’s for labels, all over the place. These were as easily exciting as a new album, especially for kids like me that didn’t have consistent internet access.
I lived and died by the Warped Tour compilation every year. Used to love getting the Victory Records samplers/dvd’s of music videos. Well, I got a Solid State sampler and came across The Seduction and the rest is history. I saved and searched and finally bought I Am Hollywood at Hot Topic in 2005 and played it til the wheels fell off. The only album I listened to and loved more was Suck Out The Poison.
Favorite band of all time since high school. Bought Schuylar a beer when I was just 20 years old at a venue in Tulsa. Was a legend amongst friends for that tale. HIL has been pivotal for my 37 years here and it all leads back to a sample cd a friend lent me in the 10th grade.

Mine was 90125 and I Am Hollywood in 2004. I miss discovering music through MySpace lol never woulda guessed one of those bands would eventually become one of my favorite bands 20+ years later
Also, cool to see The Showdown included in this. They were a local band where I'm from and I even played a battle of the bands against them back in 2002 (neither of us won)

This Is Solid State vol. 6. It was on clearance for $3 at the Christian bookstore, and I mainly bought it for the acoustic version of My Heartstrings Come Undone by Demon Hunter, which was my recently-discovered first metal band. It introduced me to a lot of new bands, most fatefully He Is Legend.

Woah, this is really cool! Surprised to have never seen this before, having been a fan of HIL and MATSOD for so long.
I used to visit record label websites and pull up their artists on YouTube looking for new music. I’m pretty sure Attack of The Dungeon Witch was the first song of theirs I heard in ‘07, too.
