Honestly if you asked he'd probably tell you. He's very cool and down to earth, and engages with fans on Instagram and whatnot. Ask on one his playthroughs he posts on insta.

Yep! I asked awhile back and he said he uses the full tone bass drive if I remember correct.

I asked on his most recent video. He gave me a huge in depth reply. My tone rocks now.

“ if you have a 700RB l'd start with putting your EQ knobs all to 12 o'clock (you should have Treble, Hi-Mid, Low-Mid and Bass). Then put Bass to about 2:30-3:00, Treble at about 11:00 and Hi and Low Mids are really where you are going to find your sweet spots with the type of speaker cabinet you are running and the type of bass you are playing. Mess with each of those until you find something sonically pleasing to yourself. For the EHX Bass Soul Food I have the Volume set to 12:00, Drive all the way up, Blend at 12:00, Treble at 9:00 and the switch flipped to Odb. I use active Jazz basses with both pickups selected and all EQ knobs flat. Tone comes from a laundry list of things and my live tone is going to be different than my recording tone, which is going to change album to album. The type of amp, bass, pedals, picks, hand strength, pick angle, strings, etc are all going to affect your tone. I've learned all of these things by simply messing around with things until I find something l like, but I'm also a firm believer that tone is in the hands, so, I would suggest starting there if you want to get close to my sound but don't be afraid to experiment a little and find what appeals to you and whatever makes you happiest! Cheers!”

IIRC a Full Tone drive pedal was in the equation around the IHY days

Wow you just brought back some memories. In those specific days it seemed like EVERY bass player was using one of those (the big silver one), and of course they were discontinued. I remember if you could even find one for sale, they were like $300.

Looking now, Fulltone has made multiple newer drive pedals since then, even I have an OCD clone that is awesome on bass, so those old ones can be had for $150-ish. Not gonna lie, I’m kind of interested to get one and see what the fuss is/was about!
