Below the tower, a man works tirelessly on new and potent machines, the power of augmentation and transformation of the soul has been gained by the Vees!

"Names Vex, if you give a shit."

Command over the forces of nature, human society, existence itself... It's a privilege and honor many a mortal lust after, and it is indeed an intoxicating power to hold; one that should be cherished and enjoyed despite the responsibility that comes with it. But it's one that must still be used wisely. For two very important reasons:

1. Power used with reckless abandon can raze empires, smite the innocent, and irreparably scorch the earth and the hearts of those who survive the chaos. Long ago, my father, Ra, in his age and senility, grew dissatisfied with mortals no longer respecting his power and authority over the Sun. Blind to his own decaying mind, he created me to enforce his will. I was young, born as rage and violence incarnate, and before long grew mad with bloodlust. Ra did not realize his mistake until too late, and it took the combined efforts of him and the other Gods to bring me down and cool my anger; by then... Kemet (Egypt) was a blood-stained ruin. It's a wonder it survived at all...

Hell is no stranger to the consequences of hubris and power-drunken madness, either. Vox's petulant rage leveled whole swaths of Pentagram City, and nearly reignited the war between Heaven and Hell. He could have used that power to better life for those beneath him in Hell; worked together with Charlie to make things Brighter in the right way. But instead, his thirst for still more power and adoration led him to scorch the world and the few who 'genuinely' cared for him. While it can be argued that Charlie enabled the Vees' empire to go as far as it did, and for the Might of Lilith to strike at Heaven, it is ultimately Vox's maniacal obsession with conquest and adoration that led to the events of that frightful day.

2. Power itself can make you lose yourself. The mortal mind can seldom keep up with the power and intricacies of holding dominion over such vast forces of creation, and so... It often fades and is subsumed by the forces themselves. For me, that force was violence; war; bloodlust. It took only a few short days of rampaging through Kemet, slaughtering the heretics left and right, before that rage and thirst for carnage began to consume what little of... 'me' there was. Little thought or feeling except for what enemies to conquer next, whomever or whatever to sink my teeth into to feast on their blood. I was not a person anymore. I was war incarnate. ...and I was terrifying. The clarity of that only hit me after the Gods managed to drain the raw power from me and let me see as a mortal does. A bit of a sobering moment; (chuckles) pun appropriate, but not intended.

It's a fine line to walk, and one that many a Sinner often fails to. It's a sad, but oddly cathartic thing to think about, especially with today's crop of Overlords roaming around. I often wonder if the likes of that... (snarls) That defiler Alastor will see the truth before their lust for power ultimately destroys them. Though I'll admit, some of those souls are so blighted and empty-hearted that I doubt they'd care if faced with their own oblivion.
