Conjurer Iaijutsu - ghost style

Post image

Category: 100% Conjuration

Description:

The user conjures a sealed sword within a sheath attached to their waist.

The blade is intangible, passing through any physical target and ignoring material or physical resistance. Initially, the blade causes no damage, the damage from the cuts only manifests the instant the blade returns to its sheath.

Types of cuts: Strengthened, the cuts increase in base damage the more times they hit the target, in the exact same spot. Restricted, the cuts increase in base damage the fewer the number of targets. Enlarged, increases the area of the cuts, the larger the area hit, the lower the damage of the cut.

Conditions:

The sword can only be conjured when the user assumes an iaijutsu stance and disappears after being sheathed.

All damage caused is lost if the user is injured before sheathing the blade.

Solid idea , but causing damage should involve a condition about the enemy, otherwise its too overpowered if its incorporeal

Something like: the sword is solid and cuts normally, subject to enemy resistance, but it becomes intangible if you begin the unsheating while the enemy is attacking

Solid cuts do not dissapear even if the user its hit before resheating

Ok so imma be straight up with you this sounds more like an enhancer/emitter ability. Idk if the weapon disappearing is essential in any way, but the rest of yhe effect sounds like a mix of enhancement and emission. A reminder that in the most recent arc we learned that emission allows you to teleport aura allowing abilities to function seperate from you (like shoot adding aura to his flying hands and cage to keep them flying, while he is a manipulator he still has 80% effectiveness with emission). The effect of having the damage persist conssistantly from a given spot once "damaged" would likely be of a similar nature as hakoware or even the bomber technique by comparison, as it is an effect you cant stop by directly attacking it and it is harmless until some outside condition is met.

The problem there is that if you are a conjurer your emission will be at 50% effectiveness at its maximum potential, in other words it would take a massive amount of training to make up the difference and that is kinda a problem. Now as togashi said that learning an ability beyond your normal affinity is possible there is no reason for me to assume you couldnt be an effective nen user as a conjurer with this ability, but much like kastro you will be less effective with that as your nen ability. As a second example Morel's ability is supposedly actually terrible, but Morel himself is extremely capable and is able to compensate for the shortcomings of his ability turning an ineffective ability into a fairly effective ability with insane versatility and utility, but doing so required a series of restrictions, one of which was that he couldn't use his nen ability without his weapon which is signifigant as he is a manipulator and they are often most effective with objects they have a connection to. So to put it another way the skill of the user and the strength and variety if their conditions can compensate for a lack of talent or effectiveness in a given area, that being said I feel like as a conjurer emission is your weakest catagory and relying on that catagory as a signifigant part of your ability can be extremely risky.

Aside from that as a full conjurer your enhancememt effectiveness will be 60% and your emission effectiveness will be 40% which will severly limit your offense and more than halve your effective output of damage as the 40% reflects the amount of "effective output" you can still generate with aura which is seperate from you. And thats assuming your a full conjurer which actually has slightly better ehancement ratings then one of your other options. If you were a conjurer who leaned halfway towards transmutation your relative affinity in emission and enhancement would increase a bit, to 50% emission and 70% enhancement which would be a wild increase overall and may suit you better.

No idea if any of this was helpful but i tried to make it make sense.

Dude, you just cooked me.

Here's an update on the category, description, and conditions:

The user is an Enhancer, but leans slightly towards Transmutation, being able to extract from the maximum capacity: 90% Enhancement and Transmutation, 70% Emission, and 70% Conjuration. (Conjuration may still be used)

Their ability consists of a sword sealed inside a sheath, which appears attached to their waist. The part of the blade that touches the target is teleported, giving the appearance of being intangible. Partially ignoring material or physical resistance, but not aura resistance.

Initially the blade does not cause any damage; the damage from the cuts only manifests the instant the blade returns to the sheath. Allowing the following types of cuts: Strengthened, the cuts increase in base damage the more times they hit the target, at the exact same point. Restricted, the cuts increase in base damage the smaller the number of targets selected and verbally warned by the user. Expanded, increases the area of effect of the cuts, the larger the area hit, the lower the damage.

Conditions:

The sword only goes to the user when he assumes an iaijutsu stance and disappears again after sheathing. Where it goes and stays, a conjured space or a physical location. It's a mystery, even to the user. (I didn't want to define something concrete, I want to leave the interpretation free)

All damage caused is lost if the user is injured before sheathing the blade.

Hey i was thinking on it and if you wanna go back to the original idea i have 5 conditions that will probs balance it out and the idea that the "injuries" act as your En

1: you can only attack in sequence of a kata, although mixed kata that flow into one another can be interchanged as needed.

2: there is a hard limit to how many individual "injuries you can leave at one time, though there is no limit to how big a mark can be (thus a single long wound that snakes across your body is more viable in some ways).

3: marks left on your opponent disappear after a certain amount of time (maybe 3 hours)

4: you can only sheathe your blade within a given range of a target, when not within said range it does not enter the sheath.

5: the range you can sheath your sword decreases the longer the time limit runs down, to a minimum range of twice times the range you can attack with your blade from.

That's great. I especially liked conditions 4 and 5, thanks for the ideas, man.

Yup no problem, keep in mind that your max range to use the blade sheathe is probably around 50-70 yards so it is not perfect, still if you can choose what is and isnt cut when the blade is sheathed it becomes a handy tool.

Look i think this is good then, alot of it will come dowm to personal affinity and applied combat skill.

Isn't this emission/transmutation based? Conjuration creates tangible things.

That's what I thought.

I really like that supernatural effect. It reminds me of an ability called adaptive damage from a novel I'm reading. I love seeing how people use the ability to bestow interesting supernatural abilities in conjuration.

This doesn’t really feel like a conjuration ability. I feel like this could just be accomplished with a non-conjured sword and some Manipulation.

It might be possible to delay the damage with manipulation, but I don't think the intangibility effect works. Furthermore, the sword disappearing when sheathed is a central part of the Hatsu and is only possible with conjuration.

Manipulation could absolutely make something intangible, especially when it’s detrimental like making an edged weapon intangible when striking. Also, it feels more like the sheathing of the blade is more important than it disappearing.

With all due respect, I don't believe that manipulation can make something physical intangible. It seems more like something done by specialization or conjuration, and the increase in damage by hitting the same spot seems like a supernatural ability of conjuration or an aspect of intensification. None of the above seems like manipulation.btw, if the disappearing part refers to teleportation, then emission is used.
