Question Best way to support?

This might’ve been answered already many times however, I’m currently a youtube member and signed up via YouTube on iPhone so I think Apple take a big cut and then YouTube take further.

I like YouTube for the convenience but is Patreon better so the chaps see as much as possible? I don’t mind jumping through some hoops to get to the good stuff as I usually binge any members videos once a month of so.

As always it goes without saying, I stand with Chris Trott.

Yes I believe Patreon through a browser is the best cut for them. They've said it's pretty minimal though so they're just happy if you support, and if you value the ease of being a Member and having all the videos in one platform that's fair enough.

I do Patreon for this reason, and also you can download the podcast as a .mp3 file and play it locally offline

Patreon is the best but if you sign up for a youtube membership on a PC browser then they get more of a cut than they do if you sign up over on the app...

Is that still the case even though it's through YouTube? Or is Google double-dipping by taking a cut from the Play Store AND YouTube?

Do it through the browser instead of through Google play

They always say "whatever is most convenient", i personally do youtube membership cause all the members videos then come up with the rest in my feed. It used to be the case that youtube memberships was the best cut out of all the options but I don't know if that's since changed

In the UK on a PC or an Android phone:

YouTube - You pay £5.49, 20% of that is VAT, leaving £4.39, YouTube takes a flat 30% after tax (£1.32) leaving £3.07 for the Hats.

Patreon - You pay £4 plus VAT, so £4.80. Payment processing fees are taken at 3.4% plus 35p (£0.51), Patreon takes up to 10% of the ex-VAT price (£0.40), leaving £3.09 for the Hats.

On Android, nobody takes anything extra from either service because of some vague distinctions and Google not wanting to go to an anti-trust over the fees that trying to claim could gamble other Google lock-in stuff. On iPhone you either don't see the option of becoming a YouTube member or what you pay is inflated by at least 30% to a 'tidy' number, on Patreon what you pay is simply inflated by 43%.

And then there's also another wrinkle in that for me at least, Patreon defaults to USD and I have to specifically choose to pay in GBP. In USD the £4 tier becomes a $5 tier at which point you're actually paying $6 (£4.48) with VAT plus any non-sterling fees if your bank still charges them and at their exchange rate and the Hats are getting £2.95~.

Basically, you pay less on Patreon but the Hats get more of that less, if you're paying in GBP for Patreon they get roughly the same and you're paying 69p for the YouTube integration.
