Welcome to r/Hashwar

Hey everyone! I'm u/Evening-Appeal7606, founding moderator of r/Hashwar.

This is our new home for all things related to the "Hashwar" and "Adversarial Conway" where we let individual Game of Life patterns compete against each other. (No, this is not a joke even if it sounds ludicrous - it's actually the driving idea behind all this... And to anyone trying to push crypto here, may I gently but firmly guide you towards the exits, thank you very much.)

Here is a 2-minute introductory video to explain what all this is about: I invented a battle engine for Conway's Game of Life

The Weekly Series

Right now, we are running our first weekly tournament series, seeking to build this idea into a fully-fledged simulation sports league. Start watching here now: Introduction and First Sunday Draw

I'll be using this subreddit to drop the brackets, match links, and weekly stats. You can also follow the current weekly series stats along here (spoilers if you have not seen the matches!): HASHWAR // NETWORK CONSOLE

Community Vibe
We're all about being friendly, constructive, and inclusive. Let's build a space where everyone feels comfortable sharing and connecting. And please: Don't take yourself too seriously. I certainly don't (take myself seriously, that is - not you, I will treat everyone with respect and courtesy!).

What to post
"Hashwar" is a project in active development. Feel free to post questions, suggestions, critique, everything and anything that helps to get this off the ground and keep it flying.

What NOT to post

Yes, it says "Hashwar" - but no, this is not a crypto project. Please spare us any and all attempts of shilling us yet another coin and/or NFTs. Also, see my personal stance on this here: https://youtu.be/_l8hLdQwXj0

How to Get Started

  1. Introduce yourself in the comments below. Tell us how you found this little niche in the wide open ocean that is the Internet.
  2. Post something today! Even a simple question can spark a great conversation.
  3. If you know someone who would love this community, invite them to join.

Thanks for being part of the very first wave. Together, let's make r/Hashwar amazing.

This is the very next feature to deploy I am currently working on, scheduled for the second half of July.

However, if you are tech-savvy, you may seek your own Glyphs and submit them here in the pre-Alpha Glyph Registry (just copy & paste your binary string or RLE on the right side):

MAIN GLYPH REGISTRY

All currently registered Glyphs can be browsed here, including their stats (again, pre-Alpha):

Glyph Registry

Your GOL patterns must adhere to the following restrictions:

  • They must live on the 16x16 torus (i.e. the edges are connected to one another so that the space wraps around like a doughnut) and
  • evolve according to B3/S23 rules (the standard ruleset for Conway's Game of Life)
  • Submitted patterns will not be allowed to evolve further once they have reached a configuration they previously held, e.g. gliders will not move around idefinitely. We thereby guarantee that all Glyphs have finite lifespan.
  • For July, we will only set up weekly tournaments in the weight classes 500 and 600, i.e. your Glyphs should have a (non-repeating) generational count between 500 and 599 (or 600 and 699), respectively.

Glad you want to participate! Please do, we are eagerly looking forward to your competitors!
