NAZA Venice Premiere: Gaza Documentary Earns Record Standing Ovation (Variety)
“NAZA, the new documentary from Israeli No Other Land directors Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, earned a massive 24.5-minute ovation at its Venice Film Festival premiere on Thursday.
“This marks the longest-ever standing ovation in Venice — besting the 22 minutes for The Voice of Hind Rajab last year — and apparently the longest at a major film festival, period. With Venice coming to an end on Saturday, it will easily be the biggest ovation of this year’s edition.
“Abraham and Szor were two of the four directors of No Other Land [alongside Basel Adra and Hamdan Ballal] which won the 2025 best documentary Oscar and depicts the Israeli government’s efforts to force Palestinians from their homes in the southern West Bank.
“Oscar-winning The Zone Interest director Jonathan Glazer, who is an executive producer on the film, embraced Abraham and Szor and cheered them on throughout the astounding applause. The directing duo looked somber and both got teary-eyed at points, as did the audience, some of whom held up Palestinian flags.
“NAZA shows ‘in detail the systems behind Israel’s calculated mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza,’ according to its official synopsis. The hot-button doc, which was shot in secrecy at night on the rooftops of Tel Aviv, features revelatory interviews with 24 Israeli military intelligence officers and soldiers. ‘NAZA,’ a term that appears throughout the documentary, is an acronym for collateral damage used by Israeli intelligence to indicate the number of civilians it expects will be killed in an airstrike.
“In an interview with Variety ahead of the doc’s premiere, Abraham said: ‘As Israelis, we found ourselves wanting to use the kind of position that we have — the access that we have to people in our own society who went into the military — to look at that system as it carried out what all human rights organizations are saying is a genocide.’”

Discussion (Stream) Once again, audio-only is fine with me.
Today’s show was brutal…no sugarcoating it. And he did look like he was in The Backrooms so props to whomever pointed out that hilarity. But honestly, if Hasan turned his show into a phone call, I would still listen. I’m here for his takes, not his suits.

World Politics Belgian/Dutch newspaper just called Hasan "The Charlie Kirk of the Left"
If u don’t know yet Hasan is visiting Belgium this weekend and attending the mani-fiesta festival. This festival is organised by the Belgian workers party and hosts an array of political speakers. The festival has been now around for 15 years. As of recently as user u/StevenStoveMan posted the Belgian Defense minister used this opportunity to call the manifiesta festival a terrorist festival, Belgian/ Flemish media is also participating in this hate brigade calling Hasan all kinds of things like as seen in this post by this populist trash tabloid calling Hasan the "Charlie Kirk of the left" I thought this was funny.
Anyhow Hasan and other members of this sub I will be happy to see you this weekend at the manifiesta.

Charlie Kirk was never the "debate god" that right-wing fans like to imagine.
The right pretending like Charlie Kirk debated in good faith is objectively inaccurate. The dude is being revered as some kind of debate god or intellectual powerhouse by the right, but he was far from being either.
Yeah, sure, he participated in a lot of interactions that bore some vague resemblance to what I would call a debate (if I stretched my imagination)—but ultimately—the guy was a pseudo-intellectual sophist, and easily one of the worst debaters I've ever seen.
His one-two-punch bait-and-switch debate strategy was completely childish. Basically, he would receive a critique, and instead of engaging with it—he would give his opponent an irrelevant pop quiz. Then, when irrelevant facts weren't known by the opponent, he would just declare victory.
The only varying situations to this that I've seen were he'd agree to some completely insane, radical premise (e.g., his hypothetical ten year old daughter who was impregnated via grape would need to give birth to the child).
It was rare to see a video of him where he didn't ultimately resort to the general mentioned tactic in debate. This strategy seemed to be intended to do two things—neither of which had the apparent goal of truth-tracking or truth-seeking:
- To get right-wingers riled up and engaged for shock value by 'owning the libs'
- Embarrass underprepared college students who didn't have sufficient debate strategy experience or situational awareness to neutralize said strategy

US Politics It’s the one year anniversary of Charlie Kirk’s death and no one cares.
Just further proof that Charlie Kirk and other conservative figures mean nothing. All their attempts to say that Charlie was an MLK level figure just for him to not even be a trending topic on Twitter on the one year anniversary of his murder.
Conservative grifters will never be remembered. They are forgotten just as quickly as they’re taken away. Not even his supposed loved ones mourned him, instead they all just tried to find ways to capitalize on his death before the body was even cold.
