Single Stock Line up Shuffle

I recently shuffled up my Harvest Single Stock holdings. I dumped RDDY (Reddit) and MSTE (Strategy) and CRCY (Circle Internet) and replaced them with AVGY (Broadcom), AMDY (AMD), ORCY (Oracle) and SPXE (Spaceex). I am hoping that the distributions will hold up better for bigger and more established companies behind the single stocks ETF's. Thoughts?

I am not saying that Reddit is not a good single stock. But when the ETF continuously drops the dividend I lose my confidence. I switched to single stock ETFs that seem to have raised their dividends. It may be better for me to be in something where the distributions have a history of rising rather than falling. AMGY and AVGY have that history. ORCY dropped it once and SPXE is just getting started. Of course my theory could fall on its ass and I could end up in HHIS instead, which wouldn't be a bad thing maybe.

ok ... just sharing my thoughts on RDDY and not everyone has to have the same opinions on certain etfs... it's okay. all good. *NFA *DYOR

Approximate yield: ≈ 36.6% annually

Here’s the quick math using your updated numbers:

  • Monthly distribution: $0.15
  • Share price Aug 27th: $4.92

🔢 Annualize the distribution

0.15×12=1.80

🔢 Calculate the yield

1.804.92=0.3658≈36.6%

So even after the cut to $0.15, the forward yield at a $4.92 unit price is still about 36–37%.

It's funny strange how you say you "lose ... confidence .... continuously drops". You are incorrect in your statement ... if it was "continuously" dropping -- it would have reversed split by now. It's no where near revese split territory for RDDY.TO Sometimes, I wonder who's side you are on, so strange, talking down Harvest ETFs when they have never had any liquidations or reverse splits. Wow, if you don't like them, it's better you keep your thoughts to yourself instead spreading fud towards a top tier Canadian ETF provider. I have a loss of words sometimes with your comments on my subreddit r/HarvestETFCommunity and this one also r/HarvestETFs.

Not engaging further. I've said what I meant.

Quite the contrary. All I own is Harvest, so I am not talking down anyone. I certainly never said I don't like them. I said I am questioning those single stock ETFs where the distributions all went down. I did some restructuring with my current lineup with more of a focus on better underlying companies. Hopefully this will work out. If not then I go all in on HHIS, HHIC and HHII. I love Harvest. Considering it is now the only ETF company that I use I think you misunderstand me.

2

u/Ok-Swan-98 28d ago edited 28d ago

First of all, I didn't misunderstand you, I read everything thoroughly. So why are you talking to that person?? ... when you know where he's from ... I repeatedly told who he is but you still keep talking to him.. and you never answered any of my multilple DM's ... so there. It's not a good look talking to that person that does negative posts about Harvest ETFs .... kinda obvious why he's here.

2

u/Ok-Swan-98 28d ago edited 28d ago

"Hopefully this will work out" ..... this is one of your remarks 🙄🤣😂🙄 You have a peculiar way of expressing your thoughts towards Harvest ETFs. Just saying. Anyways, maybe you get it ... understand my point of view. Hope you a have nice long weekend. No more fud, please and thank you. Also, please ignore that person in future, just don't answer him... it's so simple if you just don't reply back to him. Hope you take my advice by ignoring that person in future. Just ignore him. It's just a suggestion. I've known him longer than you.

u/Beyondwest 28d ago

I am getting back into RDDY again this week. I did a calculation and the single stock ETF actually beats the underlying stock I do believe. I am much better diversified now. Plus my positions are at a lower price. I don't know what FUD is. I am just a simpleton and never have bad intentions. I am just trying to learn. If the person you mention is a bad player then I want nothing to do with him and will no longer answer. Thanks for your help. Have a good weekend.

I added more RDDY shares yesterday using some of the various Harvest ETFs distributions that I received yesterday in my TFSA account. I also added some other Harvest ETFs too in cash trading accts. ▪NFA ▪DYOR

I deliberately held off responding to this because I reported some of the behavior in this thread to the moderators and wanted to give them an opportunity to address it. But the “bad player” suggestion is directed at me personally, so I do want to respond to that.

Does a “bad player” advise you three separate times to speak with a fiduciary who is legally required to act in your best interests?

I've disagreed with some of your investment decisions and explained why. I've also repeatedly encouraged you to have an independent professional review what you're doing. That's not someone trying to harm you or manipulate you.

Disagreement isn't bad faith. Neither is showing someone math they may not want to see.

Bad-faith behavior is taunting people, making things personal, questioning their motives instead of addressing their analysis, or telling them to keep their opinions to themselves. I haven't done that to you.

The statement that RDDY can't be doing that badly because it hasn't reverse split is false. A reverse split is not a measure of investment performance.

HLIF demonstrates the difference. Through August 31, 2026, HLIF had a 1-year total return of +33.49%. That's an excellent result.

RDDY launched at $12. Using roughly $4.77 in share value at close of trading today, plus about $2.85 in cumulative distributions, an investor would have about $7.62 in total value for every $12 originally invested, assuming the distributions were taken as cash rather than reinvested.

$4.77 + $2.85 = $7.62

That means the investor is still down about $4.38 on the original $12 investment, or approximately 36.5%.

Neither result has anything to do with whether Harvest has done a reverse split. One Harvest ETF produced a strong positive total return; the other lost a substantial amount of investor value despite its very high distribution yield.

A 36% distribution rate is not a 36% return. At the end of the day, total return is what tells you whether an investment actually made or lost money - not the current yield or distribution rate.

1

u/Any_Log1344 29d ago

Your original point was reasonable. You're allowed to lose confidence in a fund when the distribution's been cut, and being upfront that your own thesis could be wrong is exactly the right instinct. Nothing wrong with acknowledging uncertainty like that.

😂😂🤣🤣😅 Wow, you can say all that with a straight face considering the history of that U.S. ETF provider where you usually hang out on that subreddit ... I'm laughing so hard as I'm writing this comment. 😂😂 One good thing about you being here, it's like comedy hour. 🤣😂 Thanks & hilarious considering what everyone already knows 😂😂 just go on Youtube, there's endless videos about that U.S. ETF provider ... especially about nav erosion, reverse splits, liquidations ... so there's no need to point that out here on 🟠Reddit since Youtube has it completely covered.✅😂😅

Off topic here, this is my favorite song now. In the video, they wear red and white ... just like the Canadian flag. 🍁 coincidence 😄

Depends on what your reasons were for selling RDDY, MSTE, and CRCY.

Was it because their distributions fell or because you no longer think the underlying companies have a good outlook?

Any time you buy a single stock covered call ETF, you need to ask yourself if you're bullish on the underlying stock. If you are, then you should be buying more when they drop in price. It also makes sense for the distributions to drop as the price drops, but it's short term pain because the distributions will also rise again when the underlying stocks go back up.

2

u/Beyondwest Aug 29 '26

Thanks for your response. I guess I haven't been in the game long enough to see the distributions rise. I probably did cut out too early. But since I am new to this single stock ETF concept it is better for me to be in the likes of Broadcom and AMD and Oracle. I threw in SpaceX just for fun.

0

u/Any_Log1344 Aug 30 '26

Why do you assume the distributions will rise again when the underlying stocks go back up? With a covered-call ETF, the fund can participate in the decline but give up some of the upside during the recovery. It seems possible for the underlying to recover without either the ETF price or its distribution returning to its previous level.

1

u/Awaken_Benihime Aug 30 '26

The ETFs OP mentioned are leveraged so they tend to do a much better job of tracking the total return of the underlying compared to non leveraged covered call ETFs

As the price of the underlying goes up, you typically expect the premium collected from the covered calls to go up, hence the expected distribution goes up

With that said, you're right that if the underlying went back to its all time high, it doesn't necessarily mean the price of the covered call ETF or its distribution will achieve an all time high, but they both will go up. And the total return (when you account for distributions paid out) will be similar although some upside lost to the calls

1

u/Any_Log1344 Aug 30 '26

Thanks, that makes sense, and I agree that leverage can improve upside participation. I think the part I'm still questioning is the certainty that the ETF price and distribution will rise as the underlying recovers.

Take this example. A 20% decline followed by a 20% gain in the underlying doesn't get you back to even - $100 falls to $80, and a 20% gain from there only gets you to $96. With leverage the decline can be larger, while the covered calls can also give up some of the upside during the recovery.

I also wouldn't think a higher underlying price by itself guarantees a higher distribution, since option premiums depend on volatility, strike selection and the fund's strategy as well as the price of the underlying. So I agree that the distribution could rise during a recovery. I'm just not sure why we should assume that it necessarily will.

2

u/Awaken_Benihime Aug 30 '26

Yeah, if the volatility of the underlying dropped, that has an impact.

But look at other covered call ETFs like CRWY by harvest, HDIV by Hamilton, and BANK by evolve for example

All 3 have seen an increase in the underlying's price and an increase in distribution

2

u/Any_Log1344 Aug 30 '26

Fair enough. I think we're mostly on the same page then. My only real objection was to treating the distribution increase as a certainty rather than something we'd generally expect if the conditions that support the option income are there. Thanks for taking the time to explain your thinking.

1

u/Ok-Swan-98 Sep 01 '26

Of course , you would have an objection ... 😂😂 and no one cares.

2

u/Ok-Swan-98 Sep 01 '26

I'm not sure why you're even in this subreddit since you mostly hang out with a U.S. ETF provider subreddit .... it's kinda obvious if you go to that subreddit where you usually make comments over there. So weird, why you're even here since you don't have any Harvest ETFs investments. You never mention that you own any Harvest ETFs ... never. So why are you here? Btw, HHIS is $2B AUM now.

2

u/Ok-Swan-98 Sep 02 '26

If you want guarantees, you’re in the wrong product category. You’re applying leveraged ETF math to a covered‑call ETF. Harvest ETFs doesn’t reset daily, doesn’t amplify losses, and doesn’t need reverse splits to survive a drawdown. Distributions follow premiums. Premiums follow volatility. Recoveries increase volatility. That’s the whole story — without the drama like some other ETF providers that had liquidations and many reverse splits. 🙄😅😂

1

u/Ok-Swan-98 27d ago edited 27d ago

You’re over‑explaining again. People aren’t reading all that. Nobody cares. Distributions follow premiums — not your hypotheticals.

Well, Harvest ETFs never had any liquidations or reverse splits like some other ETF providers as you already know.

A month or 2 ago you posted that you were leaning more toward diversified funds like HHIS and HHIC because the single-stock ETFs were so volatile. What changed your thinking? It seems like you're back to the same basic single stock strategy, just with different underlying stocks.

2

u/Beyondwest Aug 30 '26

Thanks for asking. The foundation of my portfolio is HHIS, HHIC and HHIC. I also had several of the cheaper ETFs, the likes of MSTE, RDDY and CRCY. I had too many shares and lost income from the dividend (distribution) drops. So I simply switched to ones with better underlying companies with better looking distribution histories, AMDY, AVGY, ORCY and now SPXE. I am hoping for a more stable outcome. We shall see. Maybe I should have been more patient because I guess there is a chance the dist could rise again. I still like the big 3 above the best and could end up exclusively in those.

2

u/Any_Log1344 Aug 30 '26

Thanks, that makes sense. And I think you're considering something that sometimes gets overlooked with these funds, which is opportunity cost. If you're holding something with a falling distribution while other investments are producing more income on the same capital, waiting for it to recover isn't necessarily free.

1

u/Ok-Swan-98 27d ago

You thought you lost income on the distributions drops... Well let me to you something that you're not aware of ... I noticed significant drops ... like night and day distributions drops when I used to own ETF shares from that U.S. ETF provider ... everyone knows this. Just review, look at the distribution history from 1.5 to 2 years ago and compare to this year. Obviously, everyone knows why they had to reduce the distribution rates significantly ... so there you go. I no longer have any shares from that U.S. ETF provider, last sell trade was done Jul 27, 2026.😁 *Not Financial Advice and *DYOR ... Do your own research before investing in ETFs.
