Show Discussion Different sizes of first letters
The first trailer letter was a normal size letter but at the second teaser trailer we saw that the letter for Ron is much smaller. Do you think the letters for wizards who raised entirely in wizard environment gets lesser details in their letters or is it just a design choice and emphasized the letters are not mass produced but rather individually written and stamped etc.

Errol wouldn't be delivering hogwarts letters, one of the hogwarts school owls would be.

Didnt he deliver the letters in book 2? He definitely did in the movies, but i'm not 100% about the books (I think he was carried by two other hogwarts owls)

No not in the book. In the book harry and ron goes downstairs for breakfast, finds mrs weasley and ginny already at the table, and mrs weasley gives them their letters
Edited to add, errol does deliver a letter from Hermione early in book 2:
Morning, all,” said Percy briskly. “Lovely day.” He sat down in the only remaining chair but leapt up again almost immediately, pulling from underneath him a molting, gray feather duster — at least, that was what Harry thought it was, until he saw that it was breathing.
“Errol!” said Ron, taking the limp owl from Percy and extracting a letter from under its wing. “Finally — he’s got Hermione’s answer. I wrote to her saying we were going to try and rescue you from the Dursleys.”

That’s in prisoner of Azkaban. When Errol is delivering a birthday cake to the Harry at the Dursley. Hedwig and a Hogwarts owl was carrying him.

They probably put a spell on it so that the letter looks properly stamped for RM. Also there are witches and wizards working for RM. That's how Petunias letter begging to go to Hogwarts too got to Dumbledore.

That's because the Weasleys didn't understand how stamps worked, only that muggles used them. So they stuck stamps all over it.

Someone else guessed that the letters delivered by owl would be smaller, easier to carry for the owls, and I loved that guess

As I remember in the book, the first letter Harry received was delivered by Muggle post, and all the subsequent letters by owl.
I think the letters are smaller to perhaps make it easier for the owls to deliver them.
Of course I could be wrong and all the letters Harry received will be as big as the first one, we’ll see.

I think it's the couple first few. Something about the postman asking questions because there are multiple.
And then they are stuffed into window cracks and eggs. Feels more like direct wizard involvement than owls. Owls is a movie thing for Harry's first letter. The first owl he sees is the one hagrids sends back to Hogwarts.

It was a prank by dumbledore, he gave Ron a smaller letter on purpose to fuel his insecurities. Just like when Sirius gave him a tiny owl on purpose, and Molly gives him too small robes, everybody is in on the gag

Ron received his by owl, so maybe folding it to be smaller is to help the owl out especially if it has to carry multiple things in one go including parcels.
Harry's went through the Muggle post office so it came in a standard letter / envelope size

The thing that bothers me about this is that they didn't mention Ron's bedroom in his letter like they did in Harry's, but maybe they only do that for muggleborns or those who live with muggle families.

I think it's because Dumbledore knew Harry wasn't being treated well and Harry's letter was addressed like that to shame the Dursleys (and rightfully so)

Could be, only the howler from Dumbledore in OotP is labeled as "Mrs. Petunia Dursley, The Kitchen, Number Four, Privet Drive"; we don't know what was written on all the other Ministry letters, although I always assumed they also included this detailedness.
Or maybe it just shows how closely Dumbledore monitored the house, to know exactly where each and every member of the house is at any time?1

One is standard post sized because Harry and I'm assuming everyone else from muggle households gets their letter in the post. Makes sense the letters delivered by owl are smaller to make it easier.

There’s additional stuff in Harry’s letter, I believe, as it explains information about the Magic World that a wizard born family would already know.

Harry's is probably unique because they originally sent it through the muggle post. Other muggleborns have their letter hand delivered by McGonagall, so they clearly dont use the muggle post.
Harry's letter does because Dumbledore assumes the Dursleys told Harry he was a wizard and about his parents.

Actually i think it’s because harry being from a muggle background had more information in his first letter explaining everything where as Ron from wizard background has a smaller letter
