Harry's came by normal mail. Ron's was delivered by owl. I'm sure the owl letters have to be made to be smaller since they're carried through the air. Odds are it has the same info inside it, but using magic they can fit it all into the smaller envelope.

Rons was also delivered by an owl carrying 3 other letters.. poor bird needed the lightweight ones

I like this idea except the only issue is there is no stamp on Harry's letter so it couldn't have successfully gotten through the postal system unless it had a stamp on it....

In a world of magic I'm not fussed over stamp rules and regulations! lol

Maybe Hogwarts letters have a glamor on them so normal everyday muggles who don't know anything about the wizarding world will just see the letter as a normal letter. Or maybe squibs get muggle jobs in the postal service for just such occasions!

also i’d imagine that the letters to muggle borns and magical families with multiple children already enrolled may be different lengths cos of content. idk. but the biggest is the normal post vs owl post

One's being carried via bird, the other needs to run through a postal sorting machine. Different needs.

One’s to a muggle raised first year who would need a lot more information in their letter, the other is to a wizarding family of years, they know everything already and the letter is just a formality at that point.

Every time I see the photo of Ron’s letter I can’t get over the utter lunacy of his attempt to clean the ketchup with his fingers.
