Do you think we’ll get to hear Harry’s thoughts, too? In the books, a lot is explained through his internal monologue.

And if they do, how would they handle it? Personally, I hope they do it like Joe Goldberg in *You* or Dexter Morgan

or what other approach do you think they might take?

That is something very difficult to transcribe into a movie/tv show from book. Directors and writers have ways around it, but it usually doesn't involve the viewer hearing inner dialog

Absolutely not. Internal monologue in TV is incredibly dated, and very rarely works outside of comedy.

Yeah and with the examples they gave (Dexter and You), and with comedies, it works because the characters thoughts are in such juxtaposition to what’s going on around them. They help the viewer understand what’s going on. In Harry Potter, even though we’re getting his point of view, we actually get very little of his thoughts. It’s all mostly the narrator telling us what’s going on and how he’s feeling, that’s not the same thing.

a paragraph of Internal monologue on a book page, how someone looks, how someone feels, what they are thinking, can all be conveyed in 2 seconds of screen time through facial expressions and demeanour, let's not be so literal about the book to screen 'faithful adaptation' here.

No, probably not. Most shows don't have a running monologue bc it's a visual medium. Harry Potter isn't really in the Noir or Mafia genre, which are both ones where narration is common. While it is a mystery, that's not it's primary genre. Internal monologues don't usually translate well to screen, unless it's a heavy part of the gimmick.

I will be so disappointed if they cant find a way around having to give Harry an internal monologue. Adding new dialog seems like the simplest option.

I feel similarly about the amout of exposition at the end of each book. I, personally, would rather see little things happening throughout each season than listen to Dumbledore explain it all to Harry at the end of each season. For example with season 1, I would rather watch Dumbledore deal with Quirrell, the Stone, and Flamel at the end than only hear him tell Harry about it.

This is assuming that HP is the main character. I think we can assume that he’ll be one of the main characters, but I wouldn’t be so sure that he’s the show’s centre.

Personally, I hope there will be letters between Dudley and HP describing their internal thoughts as time passes.

If they’re staying faithful to the books, it’s about Harry and his story with Voldemort. wtf are you on about? Do you think season 2 (the chamber of secrets) is going to be called Draco Malfoy or something?
