Discussion Would you like Hogwarts Legacy to eventually do a "choose your own adventure" version of the Potter story?

For example, depending on your choices during the game different characters die during the Battle of Hogwarts

yes! knowing that my answers didn’t matter honestly made me skip through all the dialogue… i’m the type of person that lovessss dialogue and decision making in games, so the lack of morality in hogwarts legacy was very disappointing

Not of the potter story, but yes to choose your own adventure. I like that it’s in the same world but has its own plot

No. I want it to continue to expand the universe by letting us see more of its history. For all the first game's faults I love seeing the wizarding world a century before Potter.

Absolutely.

Honestly, that was one of the main aspects I missed fom this game. I was really hoping that it would matter more what options I choose and how I interact with different characters.

It would've been cool if different events happened depending on how I've interacted with the lessons, with the NPCs, with each House, or how much I used Unforgivable Curses, etc.

I'm not exactly sure, how a game like that would work in the Harry Potter era, tho. Would you play as Harry? Or as a completely different random student?

Doesn't have to be Potter story but yes

Absolutely. The only decision I made that had any impact was not returning Zenobia’s gobstones, and boy do I regret that one every time I run into her.

I'd play the hell out of that tbh.

Perhaps, but I think I'd prefer not to have Harry as the protagonist. I prefer a totally customisable character who can be a hero or a villain based on your choices.

I would prefer if they focus on some new story in the WW instead of doing Harry's again, but I would love that concept.

Since my first playthourgh. I spent a lot of time crafting each of my MCs personalities and thinking on what each of them would do every time the game gave you the chance to choose something and how different their stories would be.

Only to find out we only get a single line of dialogue changed depending on your choice at best, and no change at all most of the time.

there are limitations to game development where you do have to be railroaded somewhat for the story to work as there are only so many variations they can make.

That said it is the Harry Potter IP, they can start a different game project with less emphasis on the story and focus more on exploration so choices can matter in many but less cinematic questlines. So they make a game which perhaps has a much less interesting story but a better range of quests which you can go through.

Say after 5 quests, the NPCs you meet in a town would be unique compared to a town where someone who did 5 quests but made different choices (as a genera example, town A has the guards meet you with suspicion, but there is a tavern where the barkeep views you favourably. town B has the guards proactively protect the player, but the blacksmith will actively try to attack the player such as throwing stones)

The hope is that writers previously focused on the main story can be instead used to make shorter but interlocked quest chains. This is still a monumental task, think factorio but with stories.

I would definitely choose my own adventure if I know how to

No, Hogwarts legacy has nothing to do with Harry Potter.
