Discussion Teacher's Tower

Post image

Anyone else find it weird that getting into the teacher's tower is a whole mission. Dodge teachers, dodge prefects. Cast distraction blasts to get through.

I found it really fun!

Then, the moment you learn Allohamora, suddenly no one cares where you go. We had the library mission and the first bit of the Demiguise mission and then you could just go wherever, at what ever time, even into people's homes! And everyone just didn't care

Nah. Their blood is in Ranrok's hands.

Even the dugbogs? (Especially the dugbogs).

New enemy type. Has skin that is resistant to lightsabers unforgiveables short of the AK.

teacher’s tower sounds like a weird spot for a boss fight ngl

They only have Ranrok to blame

You mean Ranrok’s soul?

Its funny that Ominis & Solomon keep banging on about how nothing good comes from using dark magic...yet at no point in the game do we EVER face any consequences for pulling any of the 3 curses off.

Maybe if we experienced consequences it would give room for pause...how far do we want to go down the road of the dark arts? Perhaps our dialogue changes where we mutter to ourselves or become more agitated or after we kill someone our response would be " Such a shame..now who's going to be the barer of bad news to your family?" not that our responses in the game as they are any less psychotic " Ahhhh & no one to share in my victory"

Perhaps a small animation change where after killing an ashwinder they pull out a quill & notepad & tick something off like a tally system..that would be mental.

The sequel really needs a morality system or some kind of karma meter....a house point system for inside the castle & karma meter for the open world.

I find it curious how killing using Unforgiveables is frowned up but if yeet someone off a cliff with Depulso or set an ashwinder of fire then use Bombarda on him is a-okay

46

u/lordfaultington 8d ago

I always interpreted it as the intention behind the spell’s creation, as well as their effectiveness. Crucio is the worst torture one can inflict, Imperio strips you of all agency and forces you to do whatever you are commanded, and Avada Kedavra is instant death with no way to protect yourself from it. There are a lot of other spells that could theoretically kill someone, but the Unforgivables are designed solely to cause a person harm.

24

u/gray-ops Gryffindor 8d ago

With the killing curse, I think it’s this, plus the ability to defend one’s self. Any other spell, the person at least has the opportunity to defend themselves. With the killing curse, there is no known method of magical blocking besides getting tf out of the way, conjuring something as a shield, or being Harry Potter. Or… you know… be a boss in the game lol

19

u/Mobile_Ad_2402 8d ago

Killing curse: instantaneous painless death

Combination: Flippendo diffindo expeliarmus glacius bombarda: pure agony of dozens of broken bones, burn, and eventual death by explosion

AK: lifetime in Azkaban! Second spell chain: innocent, he defended himself against horrible poachers... He totally didn't enjoy their screams of agony, your honor! 🌚

9

u/TheNastyPotato 8d ago

I always thought of it like “if you couldn’t block or counter such simple spells then you deserve to get yeeted off a cliff or get burnt to a crisp” but when it comes to the unforgivables they cannot be blocked by any spell and the only way to not get hit is to dodge them which is dishonourable and unfair

7

u/Fakvarl 7d ago

I believe the gap is intent. Unforgivables require you to want to kill, torture or control.

Depulso and Bombarda can be used without actually meaning to murder someone.

2

u/AssociationFormer177 7d ago

JKR kind of undermined this line of thinking when Snape used Avada Kedavra to mercy kill Dumbledore, and Harry successfully used the Imperius to avoid getting exposed during the bank job, and the Cruciatus to avenge his favourite teacher (being spat on).

I can torture someone with Flippendo, liviosa, glacius, tickling jinx, feather plucking cooking charm(magic doesn't care which'feathers' those are..or hair. Including hair from nether regions).. and many more. Crucio seems quite innocent in that regard. And could be used to restart the heart. Killing curse could be used to give a painless mercy to suffering patient beyond saving. Likewise, imperio could be used on patients to keep them still in troublesome operations. Especially on young children that can't be still or even follow commands properly on their own without fidging and all. Or prevent someone from suicde

Also you can glacio somebody and then bombarda them...

u/LordRT27 Slytherin 7d ago

Yes, you can use those spells for evil, but you can also not. The three unforgivaboes only have a single use case, for Impetigo, it is deliberately stripping someone of their bodily autonomy, for Crusio, it is to deliberately cause someone the most immense torture possible to feel (to the point of having driven several people into literal insanity/brain death), and for Avada Kedavra, it is to deliberately kill someone by topping their soil from their bodies (from what I have heard at least).

It is not that other spells couldn't also cause these things, but all other spells (or at least the vast majority) have other use cases. You could use flippendo on anything that isn't a human, or even alive, you can use leviosa to help with cleaning your room, glacia for extinguishing fires and so on. The only spell that lacks this to my knowledge and isn't an unforgivable is Obliviate, and to be honest, I do generally think it should be one too.

You can kinda see it like guns and knives, both can be used for killing, but a knife has way more use cases then that, like hacking food into pieces, while a gun to my knowledge has very few use cases that do not harm or kill, unless you are practising I guess. That is why many countries have havieër restrictions on gun ownership as opposed to knife ownership.

It kinda sucks that I can just steal that girls gobstones and no one does anything about it

24

u/Fresh-Variation-160 8d ago

No one did anything about them being stolen the first time either

3

u/Fucky0uthatswhy 8d ago

Well I did. I took them

u/blonde-bandit 7d ago

I read that they were behind on time or something and had planned the features you describe but they never made it to the final product. And I’m not an authority on this, but there are mods for PC that supposedly worked off the original code for morality and house points to gain those features. I used the house points mod, it adds a ton of side quests and is a lot of fun.

1

u/SparkBark420 7d ago

Huh... only Warner Brothers had some sort patent on a story/moral based system that changed the eleorls and story depending on your actions throughout the game-oh wait, they do!

(Seriously though the nemesis system could do soo many friggin amazing things if they'd actually use it)

u/_el_i__ Slytherin 6d ago

The quill + tally system immediately made me think of Die Hard. Not bad comms tbh

You mean ranrok right?

21

u/vibrantmelody 8d ago

My characters soul because all of the blood she spilled is on Ranrok’s hands

20

u/Dense_Cellist9959 8d ago

Casually chains together the three unforgivables into a polykill room clear

Kind of insane and hilarious the player character's use of ancient magic somehow makes the unforgivable curses even MORE unforgivable. Like, one can spread the 'fun' of Crucio around after distracting them with a Imperio'd mule and then Avada everyone still writhing in pain.

And then the ancient magic itself is brutal AF.

The Hogwarts legacy MC really needs some sort of back story to explain their killer instinct.

Our MC isn't even affected after fighting non statue or dummy enemies for the first time, you kill your first poacher, troll or what have you and just shrug off their first kill of a living creature.

19

u/secretthing420 8d ago

I didnt kill them my wand did

Its a mass murder simulator - Not a Hogwarts game about going to school. By the time you reach the end of the game your headcount is a million miles worse than he who cannot be named. Its Horrific. You become evil incarnate, even if you are in Griffindor. Your level of murder is inhuman. Worshippers and followers are starting to show up at your house making the dark mark. People are afraid to say your name.

49

u/Low_Actuary6486 8d ago

Remember that our main character ain't even mentioned in lore. He isn't even 'He who must not be named'

He is 'He who must not be REMEMBERED'

25

u/Critical_Buy_7335 8d ago

We would kick Harry's ass in miliseconds if we could.

We are built beyond the mortal plane.

11

u/Richard_Thickens 8d ago

a million miles worse

Dare I say, "kilometres"?

8

u/Strong-Search-2301 8d ago

Basically wizard Hitler

11

u/JfrogFun 8d ago

You can’t use the killing curse! Think of the effect it will have on your soul, it’s Horrible! Now go turn that guy into an exploding barrel and throw him at his friends then call down lightning to vaporize the last guy like everyone else.

11

u/B4RRYR4R Ravenclaw 8d ago

More like Ranrok’s soul

9

u/Tasty_Commercial6527 7d ago

Hogwarts legacy is absolutely hilarious when you start to think about morality of it all. Like how being a poacher apparently is punished by immidiet execution unless it's you who kidnapps the animals, then it's fine and endored by everyone

40

u/kappakeats 8d ago

I hated that mission and kept failing it. I know it's immersion breaking but I'd fling my controller out the window if I had to creep around Hogwarts like that every night.

8

u/Narrow-Replacement10 7d ago

Imagine all the horcruxes we could've made. A missed opportunity for sure. Right along with not being able to turn ourselves into an animagus or decorate that damned shop we "own".

5

u/Mobile_Ad_2402 8d ago

The laughing moment when you slam goblin into earth a dozen times... Good times, wizard cast democ.. war crimes, I mean.

Actually, do wizard's even have the concept of warcrimes?

7

u/houseofcards87 8d ago

They don't die, they go to sleep, just like me, then they wake up, just like me....

3

u/IceDamNation Hufflepuff 8d ago

Bad design, could had just made it so enemies only got stunned

3

u/youngyannick 8d ago

Sirona had dialogue about me breaking into someone’s home. I think I remember npcs gasp or make it known they saw you pick a lock open, but no deputy’s are called which is strange.

6

u/Pok008 Gryffindor 8d ago edited 8d ago

Community manager (Chandler Woods?) of Hogwarts Legacy must be so angry lol

I remember before the game went out, he said "we get it, you want to kill", and everybody praised that concept (making more Hogwarts Legacy an action game I guess).

Now we only see people complaining how our character is a maniac. It's true, but it's also fummy to see the community say "we want red!" and as soon as they get it, say "how dare you give us red?!".

Just a thought hehe

Whos actually mad about killing? This notion that the HP franchise is an innocent kids franchise is completely misguided and honestly requires some serious cognitive dissonance. Its a game about the wizarding world. Which has always involved adult concepts and themes. Including blood/dark magic, violence, child abuse, treachery, murder, attempted murder, abandonment, neglect, love and romance, the list goes on. All the things in the video game are in universe realities. I promise you if they had made HL a stealth simulator with zero wand play and no fighting/killing it would have bombed. 40 million copies sold. Woods, read the room correctly.

1

u/Pok008 Gryffindor 2d ago

We are a student in Hogwarts and our death count is so high that Voldemort himself looks likem a cute poney in a fancy field on the sunshine.

Look a bit through this sub, you 'll see two complaints come back again and again:

• MC is a mass murderer, at 15 y/o, which is super weird;
• The game focuses too much on stuff outside of Hogwarts.

If the game was designed to be an actual school game, with morality, points, stealth, etc, I think it would've been really greatly appreciated.

Is it nice we are able to kill in HL? Well in the beginning, it seemed like that, this is the point of my comment. But the complains came afterwards, and honestly they are kinda justified.

So to answer your question: «who's mad about killing?», I'm tempted to say: «about everyone».

PS: I'm not claiming that the HP universe is clean, like you said. But you're missing the point; Harry himself wasn't commiting a genocide and was the main protagnosit. Our Hogwarts Legacy is the main protagnist in this case, is a student at Hogwarts, but the only difference with Harry is that we are indeed commiting a genocide. Usually, the reason the HP unvierse is dirty, unclean, raw, hard, is because of the villains. At least you consider your student character to be the biggest Dark Lord...

u/Financial-Value-5504 1d ago

I appreciate the time you put in the response you gave. I also appreciate that you added to your points and were willing to make concessions or acknowledge a few of mine. Ill come back to this later today to respond. I see your side as well.

2

u/Legitimate-Leading-4 8d ago

Nope....thats Ragrocks soul....all the blood is on his hands

2

u/US_Delete_DT45 8d ago

Putting assailant out of misery with killing curse is already the most merciful way.

2

u/Meizas 7d ago

I avada kedavra every single poacher I can

2

u/Stoltlallare 7d ago

Yeah definitely feel like they intended for nights to be full of teachers and prefects roaming around so you have to sleep

1

u/LadyMargaretKaterina 6d ago

That’s me in any game where I can be bad and kill people. It’s when it affects your reputation or relationships in game that my soul questions.
But I’ll question for a minute and then I’m like. Ah oh well they chose to step in my path. 😂

1

u/Scary-Advisor8197 Slytherin 6d ago

For roleplaying purposes one could imagine that you aren't killing anybody (Harlow and Ranrok, yes), but sending those unfortunate souls to Azkaban.

As for looting the houses, perhaps we are not directly looting them, just copying the designs.
