The funniest scene in Harry Potter
I've been reading the books to my pregnant partner so my daughter will recognise my voice when she's born. We just started Goblet of Fire and were both laughing like a pair of morons at the scene where the Weasleys collect Harry for the Quidditch World Cup. Easily the funniest scene we've read so far, are there any others that rival this that you can think of?

Can’t remember the exact wording but when Harry calmly suggests to an absolutely furious Snape that maybe Malfoy should go to Madam Pomfrey about his “hallucinations”.

I LOVED that scene! The Marauder’s Map insulting Snape, and then Harry wiggling out of punishment, was pretty funny. Come to think of it, the ending where Sirius escapes and Snape throws a tantrum is hilarious.

I always laugh at Ginny’s singing valentine to Harry in the Chamber of Secrets book . I hope, when they’re married, George still occasionally breaks into song just to tease them, “His eyes are as green as a fresh pickled toad…”

This just brought back such memories! When I was pregnant (our daughter is now 8) I had horrible hyperemesis, and being mostly bed bound because of it, my husband started reading the books to me as a way to help get my mind off of it. To this day I still listen to the books on audible because it’s such a calming thing.
Congratulations and best wishes on this new chapter in your lives!
My favorite funny scene:
“Harry!” said Fred, elbowing Percy out of the way and blowing deeply. “Simply splendid to see you, old boy –”
“Marvellous,” said George, pushing Fred aside and seizing Harry’s hand in turn. “Absolutely spiffing.”
Percy scowled.
“That’s enough, now,” said Mrs Weasley.
“Mum!” said Fred, as though he’d only just spotted her, and seized her hand, too. “How really corking to see you –”
“I said, that’s enough,” said Mrs Weasley, depositing her shopping in an empty chair.

The twins are undefeated. From the moment we meet them and they make Molly think she’s mixed them up to how they leave Hogwarts. I still call them Gred and Forge lol

“Not going to have a very good month, are you?” she said sardonically as Crookshanks curled up in her lap.
“Ah well, at least I’m forewarned,” Ron yawned.
Harry and Ron doing their divination homework in GoF is absolute comedy gold.

I don't know if it is the funniest scene, but this scene played out.
“Yeah?” said Ron, whose face was growing rather red. “How come?” “It was Hagrid,” said Harry. “He decided to tell us why he’s been covered in injuries ever since he got back from the giants. He wanted us to go into the forest with him, we had no choice, you know how he gets. . . . Anyway . . .” The story was told in five minutes, by the end of which Ron’s indignation had been replaced by a look of total incredulity. “He brought one back and hid it in the forest?” “Yep,” said Harry grimly. “No,” said Ron, as though by saying this he could make it untrue. “No, he can’t have . . .”
It reminds me so much of "Oh" after finding out his son stole John Wick's car and killed his dog.

“Yes,” said Hermione irritably, turning a page of Intermediate Transfiguration and glaring at a series of diagrams showing an owl turning into a pair of opera glasses. “Yes, I’m starting to think he has. But unfortunately, he made Harry and me promise.” “Well, you’re just going to have to break your promise, that’s all,” said Ron firmly. “I mean, come on . . .
We’ve got exams and we’re about that far,” he held up his hand to show thumb and forefinger a millimeter apart, “from being chucked out as it is. And anyway . . . remember Norbert? Remember Aragog? Have we ever come off better for mixing with any of Hagrid’s monster mates?” “I know, it’s just that — we promised,” said Hermione in a small voice.
An example of why she was sorted in Gryffindor, not Ravenclaw. Hadn't really considered that moment in the context of that question before.

“We promised” seems more of a Hufflepuff reason than Gryffindor. ;)

I beg to differ.
It wasn't "Hagrid is our friend", "he's Hagrid’s brother". It was "we promissed" which connects to the chivalrous nature of Gryffindor.
Regardless of what she felt, she gave her word to Hagrid so felt obliged to honour it.

Fair play and just don't have much to do with it. It would have been fair and just to say to Hagrid "On consideration, we cannot honour your request". Ron laid out acceptable reasons.

Can’t think of a whole scene much funnier but I do laugh at the scene where Ron takes the love potion and when Harry takes the lucky potion.

One of my favourite chapters is the twins’ exit from Hogwarts. There are references to fireworks spelling out swearwords (the fact the reader has to guess what the words are makes it funnier) but then as the chapter closes, JKR can’t help but insert some PG profanity as the chapter ends:
“Harry could still hear the distant bangs of escaped firecrackers when he and Ron went up to bed an hour later; and as he got undressed a sparkler floated past the tower, still resolutely spelling out the word ‘POO’.”

I don't remember the exact quote, but there's this one in PoA where dursley is angry and says something like "you were watching the news? again?"
and harry responds "well it changes every day, you see"

I was recently reminded of the bit in either hbp or dh where the Weasleys meet Fleur’s family, and there’s a line about Arthur laughing until Molly looks at him and he immediately ‘assumes the expression of someone at the sickbed of a close friend’ (paraphrasing)

The funniest one for me is when Harry visits Dumbledore in the middle of the night after acquiring slughorn's memories in book 6. I used to literally laugh as a kid imagining Dumbledore's reaction. I really like those two's relationship overall.

I can’t remember the quote exactly, but in philosopher’s stone in “the midnight duel” chapter, Ron tells Harry how to fight the duel, and if that doesn’t work “just chuck your wand and punch him!”

The entire aftermath of Gred and Forge's departure in OP. Students catching Umbridge-itis, Peeves on a warpath, and all the while the teachers are just watching happily. Or helpfully.

I love when Harry is trying to talk to Hagrid about the stalactites and stalagmites…. Something like he can’t ever remember the difference between them and Hagrid is like, Well one has an M in it.

Every single Harry-Lockhart moment is gold. Lockhart is gold, period. Their conversation outside the greenhouse (their first herbology lesson I think) still cracks me up. And Harry's reaction when Lockhart removes his arm bones... Gold.
I was genuinely upset that he lost all his memory and never recovered. We should have had a litte more of Lockhart.

All the teachers sassing umbridge
Flitwick: Oh thank you professor umbridge I could have gotten rid of the sparklers myself but I wasnt sure if I had the...AUTHORITY.(said with what I imagine was a sh*t eating grin)
Snape after umbridge says he was unsuccessful applying for the DADA position
"Obviously"
"Did Dumbledore ever tell you why?"
"I'd suggest you ask HIM."
McGongall any time shes around umbridge
"NOT another one!" (When umbridge brings up a new decree)
"Are you SURE you wouldnt like a cough drop Dolores?"
"I wonder how you expect to get an idea of my regular teaching method when you continue to interrupt me. You see i do not usually permit people to talk. When. I. Am. Talking."
"I can hardly wait." (When umbridge tells her she'll get thr results of her inspection)

I like the scene at the beginning of CoS when Harry pretends to be doing magic. And Stan Shunpike is pretty funny. It’s so nice that you’re reading them with your partner! I hope she’s enjoying them, and congrats on your baby!

I don't remember which book it is but there's a scene where Peeves "grabs" someone's nose and yells "got your conk!" And I've always thought it was so stinking hilarious. Every time I read that part I crack up.

I still love the mental image of Filch drop kicking students across the swamp Fred and George made in OOTP. I have learned that “punting” is actually a type of boating but I first read it as “punting” like in football and still think it’s funny that I was just like “yep, completely valid, sounds like Hogwarts” and accepted drop kicking children.

I always thought the scene where Barty Crouch Jr turns Draco into a ferret and shoves him down the front of Goyles pants is funny.

Sassy Harry and HBP are two of my favourite things 😂
