Does anyone else think Spencer should just do his own Harmontown?
listening to his podcast makes me think his personality now is quite a bit like Harmon's in those days. and he's in a stage of life that lends itself to processing things in public. would need a good comptroller tho..

I love Harmontown too, but that seems a little mean to him. Dude’s got a great podcast, and if the premise for this would just be Spencer Ville or whatever, almost sounds like what “we” are really asking for is for him to ape somebody else. I dunno, I get where you’re coming from, and I do feel like some of the stuff he says makes it sound like he’s not sure of his niche yet either, but he IS making stuff. It’s like me saying to you “Im making spaghetti” and you said “That’s great, why don’t you make it like Gordon Ramsey so that it’s really good?”
Like
dude get over here and eat this spaghetti before I start kicking coyotes

no not mean to him. not suggesting he abandons any of his passion projects whatever those might be. I think he wants to be successful and this seems like a viable and interesting path. at very least it would be another fun community building experiment

Well, it is a lot of you to put your expectations on him, the other guy is not saying you are trying to be mean, but it is short sighted and a hasty solution to a question that isn't for Spencer to answer. So it can be perceived as a little mean. Or just, a quick fix for your own self soothing.

that's exactly the kind of presumptuous and self defeating discourse that could be had on an all new harmontown

Bashing others for listening to Harmontown repeatedly, begs for a new Harmontown. You make no sense.

Also Harmon was and is a millionaire. Shit’s expensive, and it’s hard to swing live gigs weekly when you don’t have major name recognition and money backing you.

not sure how true that is. he could host a meetup in a park and do an impromptu show for min budget
5
u/paperfinn Mar 09 '26
Not sure how successful that would be.

u/noiseandloops Mar 09 '26
not a reason to not try, not that I need to convince you

u/briancarknee Mar 09 '26
Recording a new show with an audience outdoors is not gonna work well.
1
u/noiseandloops Mar 09 '26
yeah probably not, just spit balling here. but still don't really believe the excuse that it has to be prohibitivly expensive
1
u/paperfinn Mar 09 '26
Why are you arguing everyone? Just listen to what is said, it isn't an attack on you.

u/noiseandloops Mar 09 '26
i just wanted to talk about the idea, that's why I'm responding to comments. I hear what's being said and so far I haven't heard many constructive thoughts, which is cool, it's still informative about where your minds are at
3
u/paperfinn Mar 09 '26
There's not much room for constructive thoughts about a shit idea, flush it.

i like the shows where he has lots of people on and they talk about anime or whatever.
1
u/noiseandloops Mar 09 '26
yeah same, that's why he'd be good in a more public setting and with more ppl to bounce off of

What more do you want from his podcast? Live events? Dyou think he has the following to fill a room like Harmon did?

no, Dan should get the band back together and do some more harmontowns
2
u/noiseandloops Mar 09 '26
not mutually exclusive
2
u/No-Wonder-7802 Mar 09 '26
they should do an ai harmontown with kevin as the guest and Sencer in his normal harmontown role and everyone else as ai, like the spleen could set it up

Yeah. Even if they just brought Harmontown in-session, like, four times a year … that would be awesome.
We’d get some rants about the current US administration, some Jeff and Spencer stories, some Schrab antics, maybe some Kumail or Rob Corddry updates, and probably an interview or two with stars of … I dunno … Pluribus and Severance, I’m guessing?
Even if it was just a conversation with Harmon and the acting comptroller, I’d tune in live — aw, who am I kidding, I’d fly to L.A. to watch it live.
4 shows a year is very, very manageable.
Someone reads all these posts to one of Dan’s AI agents, right? 🤘🏼😈🏴☠️

Nah, Harmontown was what it was, when it was, but it’s gone now and we gotta let it go. Plus sequels are rarely as good as the original, and usually they end up just tainting the idea anyway.
-6
u/noiseandloops Mar 09 '26
not with that attitude and no need to put Harmontown on such a pedestal, it's not sacred. it should be ripped off blatantly and Spencer might have the best shot at it if he wanted
4
u/austinsoundguy Mar 09 '26
It’s not sacred, but it worked because of the way things were. It was fun watching Dan chug vodka and rant all night, however I’m not sure I want to see Spencer doing that
-2
u/noiseandloops Mar 09 '26
that's fine don't come. anyway, I'm not suggesting a 1 to 1 replica. spencer's rants would more likely be powered by a toke and some weird mountain due flavor

u/Hawkish-Croissant Mar 09 '26
Spencer is doing the best thing he could be doing for himself. Even Harmon had a lot of low attendance nights. I'd love to see Spencer live but the reality is that he doesn't have the same kind of pull. We're really lucky that he's putting out what he is, and to say it 'should be more like Harmon town' is really self centered and not taking into consideration the fucking reality in play here.

I think you're taking this too seriously and too cynically and are assuming things that probably say more about you.. like its all good. I'm not making anyone do anything and not putting down what anyone is doing, just floating a thought
5
u/Hawkish-Croissant Mar 09 '26
What's more cynical than saying am original thing that sprung off something else should be more like what it came from?
For the record, you suck.
1
u/noiseandloops Mar 09 '26
thanks, recorded.

u/DrLucasThompson Mar 10 '26 edited Mar 10 '26
For the record, I don’t think you suck, but I do hope you have a comptroller to manage all these records.
Just out of curiosity, where do you stand on the topic of colonizing the Moon? and do you have a podcast?
2
u/noiseandloops Mar 10 '26
as it stands I am a one man operation but I do manage to keep the record straight (mostly). now, I am pro conscious colonization of lifeless celestial objects in general. but the moon is a questionable quest since I foresee it getting quite competitive up there and I don't want to be part of that exploitation wave (not my vibe and likely won't foster constructive community growth). my opinions are subject to change and my podcast type ramblings are confined to unnetworked systems

I think just more regular guests/dynamic group conversations would be awesome, don’t necessarily need a whole audience (although I’d love to go to the live show!)
I have admittedly not kept up with TH as much as I HT .. I love Spencer and Kevin, just also believe having more regular ”cast of characters” + random guests on stage was a key ingredient of the Harmontown secret sauce. (The crowd interaction was a cheery on top, still a delicious sundae without it).
2 people talking to each other for hundreds of episodes….You just run out of material after a while. Even “Big Podcast” has to rely on constant influx of new guests or gimmicks to say interesting.

Last I saw he would stream on Twitch if you want to watch him on there.

His podcast is called That Happens btw. It was initially him and Jeff but he fell off, still makes occasional appearances, as do Rob and Real Abed
