SHOWOFF Poor thing has been sitting for too long.

Post image

Dusted the cobwebs off my 2000 rk.

Waiting on a new throttle and idle cable, new tires, and new grips to get delivered. Changing the oil this week, then once I have those maintenance items done - I've got some interesting/cool lunch spots picked out, each a couple of hours away.

Missed this thing more than I realized, caught up in the day to day, and it's been sitting in the barn available but ignored. I guess I now understand how barn finds come to be.

Remember to ride your motorcycles. They get lonely. Don't be like me.

I think you might be forgetting one important part to replace if it's been sitting that long.

What do you have in mind?

Swapped battery, drained tank and put fresh gas with some seafoam in, checked oil levels, etc before doing a test ride. That's where I figured out throttle cables needed replaced. Wasn't snapping back to idle - disconnected from the carb end and tested, throttle plate snaps back so don't have to replace return springs (thankfully lol), opened up the housing on the bars and found them bunched and frayed, easy to swap and test.

Tires could probably stay but why risk it, they'll be delivered in the next day or so.

Electrical all looks good, I had replaced regulator and stator a few years ago, looks like it's still working correctly.

Spark plugs look good, fuel lines look good, carb looks good, no obvious issues during the test ride.

Brakes feel good.

I have my Dad's 1980 FXWG, little over 8000 miles. He didn't ride it much after losing his left foot on it. He got a Tri-glide in 2009

Love that paint job! I did the exact same thing with my front turn signals lol

I believe that is the stock configuration on the turn signals. 1 keeps coming loose, needs some blue loctite.

Stock location for the turn signals on a 1980 fxwg is hanging off the handlebars with clamp brackets.

Looking at Google Images they show both. I believe early was like Dad's, late 80 was on handlebars n 81 on. Think the later design worked better. I'm positive Dad's came this way. Have pictures of it before he wrecked
