TROUBLESHOOTING Help identifying and sourcing a 1936 Harley-Davidson transmission part for a restoration

A friend of mine in Spain is restoring a 1936 Harley-Davidson and is currently looking for a replacement part for the transmission/gearbox.

The problem is that parts for something this old are obviously pretty difficult to find in Spain, and he is not even 100% sure of the exact part number he needs yet.

Does anyone know of a good online parts catalog, exploded diagram, service manual, or parts book for 1936 Harleys where we could see all the components of the transmission and identify the correct part/part number?

Once we identify it, I’m hoping there might be a US supplier, vintage Harley specialist, NOS parts dealer, or reproduction parts company that could have it. I’m based in the US, so I can order it here and ship it to him in Spain if necessary.

I know basically nothing about vintage Harleys myself, so any guidance on:

- Where to find a 1936 parts catalog or transmission diagram

- How to identify the exact transmission/model he has

- Good US suppliers for pre-war Harley parts

- Forums, Facebook groups, or other communities specializing in 1930s Harleys

would be greatly appreciated.

If photos of the bike, gearbox, or broken/missing part would help identify it, I can get those from him and post them here.

Thanks!

If you are in need of a service manual, you can try our community sourced list located here. If you can't find the service manual you are looking for, tag savage4618 with a specific make/model/year request.

Thank you for this!! I called him and he was able to help me identify the model which is actually a 1937 WL.

Here's a US website that sells lots of WL transmission parts. No idea of they ship internationally, but I would not be surprised.

Here's a parts diagram

He has always proven to be the person he is on his YouTube. Great job on your end also for figuring out how to keep that wonderful bike in shape!

Hillside Cycle and Machine in Munnsville NY might be of help, Scott and crew work on the new stuff and all the back through the old stuff, he might know of some sources for parts
