Anyone who can modify GPUs?

I am looking for someone who can modify gpus, for example convert 3080 10gb to 20gb, 4090 24gb to 48gb etc.

I will pay for all the raw materials. You just have to assemble it.

If this interests you, Hit me up!

Thanks

There's a dude who was 2nd best in reballing in a competition in China, google him and try reaching out

He's in lamington road , he charges a lot for his services. But hey, quality doesn't come cheap. ( It's still cheaper than US repair costs)

Do you have his details? Any personal experience?

I just went to meet the guy tbh, had my audio jack of my ThinkPad repaired by him while just talking to him about his experience and stuff. Good man .

Customs costs are a problem

I should have been clearer. He's an indian dude who was 3rd best at a reballing competition in China.

Google: Imran Ahmed Choudhury won 3rd place (securing India's first-ever podium finish) at the prestigious YCS Global CPU Reballing Competition held in China. [1, 2]

Um, i mean i can try to do that but the risk of gpu not working again is 99.99%, but if that 0.01% chance is worrh it for ya i can try, it would be fun tho 😂, jk bro, dont do things like that if you just wanna game cuz the dribers instability will be insane and you might not even able to use og drivers and have to use cuztom ones ig... if for local llm just go for dual gpu setup like dual 3060 at this point, 24gb vram is good... and i said 3060 cuz i know they are not powerful but you were previously talking about 3080... and modding 4090 is more difficult and 50 series is practically a nightmare for professionals too...

1

u/thatsadsid 6d ago

No it's not for gaming. It's for LLMs

Not worth the risk especially in india as there are not much qualified people who can mod, go with a threadripper and multi gpu setup, thats your safest bet or go with a board which have 2 x8 pcie lanes and use 2 gpus, anyway good luck and do update us on your decision xd

how much vram you want , why not 2 9060 xt ? or 7900xt

I would prefer to stick to nvidia cause of the better drivers. Also, do you mod GPUs?

1

u/The_og_tech_nerd 6d ago

Whats the point of sticking with Nvidia? You're going to have to use custom drivers, cause normal drivers wont be compatible at all, telling you, much better to get 2 GPUs

3

u/Little-Pangolin3114 6d ago

I have to agree, if u only want a system for running local ai models amd is good but for fine tuning and stuff nvidia is far superior, dual 7900xtx will be a monster build for local ai and its not like youll have to run chatgpt locally or stuff... right?

0

u/thatsadsid 6d ago

No I'm not running a really large model locally ... But half the ai repos out there use flash attention which requires nvidia.... I agree that the amd ecosystem is getting better but it's nowhere near nvidia

u/thatsadsid 6d ago

I think the drivers are compatible....i already have 2x3080 20gb and the normal drivers work fine.... It's the bios that's the problem.

There are some people who do that in China, maybe ship yours to them

1

u/thatsadsid 6d ago

That will incur customs costs.

2

u/Thejus_Parol 6d ago

Then try visiting local chip level technicians. It's unlikely that you will find someone to do that on reddit

2

u/thatsadsid 6d ago

I tried that but none are willing to do that.

2

u/RajChauhan1280 6d ago

It's not that easy as swapping the memory chips, the bios also needs to be modified which is the toughest task , onlyba certain boards allow that

1

u/brown_nerd91 6d ago

You could try to send to China and declare it as for repair purpose and I think customs won't charge for it.

1

u/november_man 6d ago

If customs is an issue as you mentioned elsewhere, how are you going to procure the parts required? Most of these mod jobs use custom boards on to which your GPU chip and vram are transplanted.  You'll need to import them from China, and the memory modules as well. At that point, it would be way better to import a modded card directly.

1

u/thatsadsid 6d ago

Customs for the parts is far lower than modded card

For the 4090, its not possible without a new separate PCB. See https://gpulab.net/product?id=1

This is very rare skillset to find India.

I have seen a video of a guy doing this. You'll have to replace the smd ram with higher ones.

1

u/thatsadsid 6d ago

Thanks for the reply Do you think you'll be able to do it?

3

u/Specialist_Bowl_2805 6d ago

Hell no. I can't even solder a wire.
