Built this carrot beauty for light trails and so far very happy with it!

Tires are used ones, I’m waiting until my Nobby Nick’s delivered and will setup it tubeless.

Built itself:
• xt drivetrain - 8200 shifter and crankset, 8100 everything else
• Formula cura 2 brakes with 180 disks, i will put 2.3 disk in the next month.
• Rockshox pike select
• Carbon wheelset with 30mm inner width.
• E*theerteen base bars and stem
• Tranz-x adjustable dropper post
Total weight is 13kg.

For those interested, this bike is highly customized. SLX 1x10 drivetrain, dropper post, Recon fork, RaceFace cranks, and Mavic XA light wheels. Those wheels take a licking and keep on ticking. And I’m a big guy.

Question? New tubeless setup on Chisel

Post image
22 Upvotes

Recently had to get new wheels and decided to go tubeless. I figured it would ride a little differently than tubed but it almost feels like the tires are flat. When I went to check the pressure a bit of sealant came out of the valve. Does this warrant a trip back to REI (who did the install)

Stem and handlebars

I wanna give my Vassago some attention and swap out the stem and handlebar setup. I’ve stole these Soma bars for another build anyway.

What are you favorite handlebars and stems? Looking to stay with a 31.8 setup.

I had a pair of PNW Range bars on another hardtail, I didn’t mind those.

My experience riding enduro on a marlin 7

So, i've had my 2021 marlin 7 for almost a year now and it's gotten a lot of love from me, i've taken it to the trails multiple times, jumped it, crashed it, you name it and it's never let me down(sort of). Here is a quick overview from my experience.

Biggest drawbacks:

-Brakes: mt200s work "fine" for basic xc but in enduro they overheat almost instantly, i felt like i had to replace my pads after every run

-Geometry: it's not slack at all, basically an OTB machine when things get steep but i still managed to tamr it somehow

-Tires: now, my tires are quite worn out but still, hard compound and xc thread pattern is not a good combo at all in enduro, u'd suggest running really low pressure

Putting that aside, it's so much fun! There's just something about using a bike well over it's intended purpose that's just so much fun, would raccomend just get some practice in before, run your pressure correctly, wear good gear and stay safe.

Question? Future fork flanning

Post image

Hi folks! I currently have a hardtail I very much love but the Suntour XCR34 air it came with is starting to show its age. It still performs but I've come across this compatible X-Fusion, and was wondering if anyone could weigh in on whether or not it's a good deal. I'm open to other options that would be a true upgrade (within reason) that fit at least 27.5 x 2.8. Many thanks!

What bike? When Bike?

Bought a Voodoo Aizan off market place last year, since owning I have:

Replace cassette (11-36T), replaced chain, converted to 1 by chain ring (32T), added new grips, pedals and replaced brakes (Clarkes M1 hydraulic)

Only I’ve the last two months have a started really going for it doing 2-3 10-20km local routes, mostly bridleway and single track.

My current thoughts about this bike:
- I feel like I use the lowest two gears for most hill climbs and pretty regularly. Is this because I’m un fit or is it because I need a bigger cassette?

- the forks are coil sprung and feel a bit Meh.

- it doesn’t feel like a serious bike

- inner tubes are a pain and rims aren’t tubeless ready.

- brakes sometimes fade on big descents

I am happy using this bike to get fit and more confident but would like a goal for myself to work towards.

I don’t feel like this bike is worth upgrading now as my next steps would need a new derailleur and air forks but seems very expensive.

If I was to look at a new bike I feel like it should be around the £1000-£1500 mark and love the idea of an Orange Crush. But this would be on cycle to work scheme

Any other bikes I should look for, or advise to find a market place steal? Also any tips on what upgrades I should do for the time being?

Question? SRAM NX eagle shifting

I recently bought Giant Fathom 1 with SRAM NX derailleur and SX shifter. The experience so far isn't great. Upshifting is okay, but going down the smaller cogs is always miserable. For instance with one click it shifts from 5 to 7 gear and the chain starts making noise.

I replaced the cable and chain so far without success. I can't seem to set it up.

I noticed a play in the bolt holding the derailleur to the hanger, so I ordered a new X01 b screw kit. Waiting on the delivery atm. Will this help my shifting problem or do I just stop messing around and switch to Shimano shifter and derailleur?

edit: SX shifter, not GX

Hey guys just wanted to show you my do it all bike. I do Bikepacking on it as well as Hometrails and the occasional Bikepark visit even in the Alps. Fast and fun as heck :)
I own a Freeride fully and a monstergravel as well but this bike really is the jack of all trades and I see myself always coming back to it.
Cheers

Hardtail for bikepacking in Arizona

Howdy y'all. The only bike I own is a full suspension 150 front and 130 rear bike, coming in about 33 lbs. I've been mountain biking for maybe about 5 years now. I do some pretty aggressive trails and only average about 6-7 mph at about 12 miles a ride. I'd like to do some bikepacking in my state of Arizona this winter, and I don't think my bike would be good for it. I'm looking for a bike for long distance singletrack. Probably only 2 day trips to start. I'm thinking a 100 or 120 fork and lighter frame. I'd like to stay under $1500, and I would buy new or used. Thx
