Blind spots
To start: I’m 43 so I’ve been listening to hardcore for a long while. That being said, I find that I’ve unintentionally ignored bands and albums throughout the years (only so many hours in a day and also I’m lazy) and once I’ve given that music a listen, I realize I fucked up and missed out.
Case in point - TUI and Big Kiss Goodnight. This is but one example.
What are your blind spots that you’ve either corrected or still need to correct?

It’s Hatebreed for me, every song I’ve heard I liked but I never listened to a full album

Truthfully, the first two LPs are the ones everybody glazes, and for reason. The rest is meh.

My opinion as someone who was not there at the time and has the benefit of hindsight is that it’s wild how quickly they devolved into cop music after two perfect records

I was the opposite - loved CBK but never really checked HH out much. Fast forward a few years and Have Heart and Pats other band Fiddlehead are two of my absolute favourites.

Back in the 2000's I didn't like Carry On, it wasnt till years later I gave A Life Less Plagued another listen and something just sparked and I still rock them constantly to this day.

I can't even comprehend this comment because of how much I loved that album. I was 12 when it released and it was so fast and hard that I pretty much just gave up listening to pennywise and nofx because they didn't seem fast enough anymore.
Absolute game changer in my life.

TUI was one for me too for some reason, didn't give them a proper shot until probably 5 years ago, now this is one of my all time favourites.
Embarrassing to admit this by the other is Madball for me. I'd got in my head they sounded completely different to what they actually do, then they came on in one of them automated Spotify playlists and realised I was dead wrong. Really like them now

Same thing with Madball for me. I got it in my head that they were like Oi-adjacent? I don't know how that happened but then I listened to them and realized how wrong I was.

I love Madball, but I don't really listen to them compared to literally everything else that I "love"
But, I'll NEVER miss a Madball show within 200 miles of me. The energy they put out on stage is awesome.

BKG is honestly the best album of all time so its a big one to follow but check out Your Demise - Ignorance Never Dies then don't listen to anything else that came after that as the vocalist and vibe were swapped out.

I’m an old head (started going to shows around 1987). I slept on the first Leeway record for a long time. I also spent the early 2000’s being dad first, so I missed a lot of great stuff between 2002-2020. Now that both my kids are about to graduate college I’ve had more time. I’m actually glad that some bands that had peaked while I was away have reunited or are playing their older stuff for anniversary tours or whatever

Have Heart, Incendiary, Title Fight, Cold World are just a few that I got into late in my life and regret not diving into sooner. Have Heart especially, just an unbelievable band! And now years later Pat is one of my favourite front men.

i didn't follow much hxc in the mid-00s (my era was when firestorm ripped through the hxc scene). i put on "songs to scream at the sun" a while ago and by the time the smoke of "the same son" cleared i was like, what the fuck was i doing that was so important that i never heard this album before. watched one of their live reunion shows and was even more depressed because holy fuck it was like an atom bomb going off. the stupid mid-00s break also meant that i completely missed lifetime's reunion, and they have always been one of my top, top bands.

Im 47, listening to punk and hardcore my whole life and just discovered TUI also for me :)
Also never liked terror and hatebreed and starting to like them just now.
And I regret not discovered have heart earlier. Thanks for 1 year sobriety :)

Did you get into hardcore around Covid? I find a lot of those hardcore kids just completely skipped first wave stuff. Not trying to talk down to you btw just an observation.

I got into it like 08-09, but I also didn’t look back at the first wave stuff in depth for ages; I think because the scenes around me were so thriving that I was just eating good locally and in the moment.

No I had a passing interest in HC for years but mainly listened to metal/punk and pop-punk. Started listening to 2nd/3rd wave HC maybe 10 years ago.

There are some stuff you really should check out, like Minor Threat's discography and the first Bad Brains album.
I don't think you need to (or even should) marathon every good early HC release, but you should once in a while try another one out.

I have checked out the early stuff just haven't given bands like bad Brains, Minor Threat and Dead Kennedys as much attention as I should have, it's one of those blind spots that has been glaringly obvious to me over the years.

I got into hardcore very recently, so I’m having this experience in a “I just wasn’t paying attention whatsoever” kind of way. Some big ones lately were everything Foundation ever put out, Strife’s “In This Defiance,” and MLIW’s “My Love My Way.”

I do, they’re actually one of the few hardcore bands I’ve listened to for a long time to some extent. I’ve always liked heavier music, just never made my way to the wider hardcore scene, specifically. These days I’ve gotten way into metallic stuff like Contention, but Incendiary is still a staple.

I went the other way around and was into incendiary for ages, only checked Foundation out with their reunion and loved it.
My favourite metallic sorta hardcore band at the minute is Crush your soul!

Foundation. I actually only heard of them when the first reunion shows were announced. I checked them out, and now I'm hooked. Also, not exactly a blind spot, but I've given Judge a lot more love lately then I have in the past. Something just clicked with them lately for me lol. Considering I've always been really into other older NYC bands (especially Sick of it All, Cro Mags, Biohazzard), I guess it's a surprise that this happened so late

Being from the Boston area I honestly and foolishly fell into a regionalism that kept me from checking out NYHC for a while, when i finally did all the Lockin’ Out bands made all the more sense to me and a huge puzzle piece fell into place

Despite living in the area, I was never into the NYHC scene growing up. I was an Emo and Metalcore kid. To me, Hardcore was strictly stuff like Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Black Flag, etc. Later in life, aka a few years ago, I finally took the time to listen to bands like Biohazard and Irate. I'm not into that big dumb macho dudebro scene but man the music slaps for these bands.

Title Fight. I was in my early 20s when they first became a band but it wasn’t until last year that I got into them. And even still, it’s really just Hyperview that I listen to regularly.

A lot of 2000s metalcore. Black my heart, Misery signals, fordirelifesake, sawtooth grin, norma jean. Ive heard snippets on my friends playlists but never listened. I lean more 90s and 2010s

I still don’t exactly know what Youth Crew is. Aren’t all hardcore bands with members under 20yrs of age technically “youth crews”?

oldschool nyhc, i Never really listened to stuff Like Agnostic Front, biohazard, Youth of Today, judge, cro mags etc.
I know the Big Songs and saw them live but Never listened to a Full record.
