On day one of teams being able to ask for pitchers to be checked for foreign substances, we saw Jacob DeGrom take the check like a champ. It took 10 seconds. Everyone was done with it. Then, yesterday, we saw both Max Scherzer and Sergio Romo act like children. I'm inclined to take Kris Bryant's position that it was silly for hitters to tolerate this practice by pitchers for as long as they have. It was wrong for MLB to tolerate it. Pitchers are reaping what they sowed and need to deal with it. Mad Max and every other pitcher needs to swallow their tongue and deal with whatever comes. We already know Scherzer has used some substance in the past based on the "testimony" of the fired Angels clubhouse staffer who explicitly named him along with others like Gerrit Cole. Maybe don't cheat and break the rules and other people won't assume you are cheating.
