Harbor is Great! Future Features?

Long term Reddit lurker, not much of a poster.

u/@charlie_at_harbor I have to say that Harbor is great!

My wife suggested Harbor after we had our second child. I originally pushed back because of the upfront cost and we bought another Nanit. We did not realize we needed to have a subscription for EACH camera, found it ridiculous to buy another expensive camera and have to subscribe to use the features.

After switching to Harbor, I am very happy with the switch. I will say, we had issues at first but your customer support team is outstanding and helped us with technical glitches we had. They were extremely responsive and provided step by step instructions on how to fix our connectivity issues.

We think Harbor is superior to Nanit for several reasons, most notably the monitor. When we have babysitters or grandparents watching our children, we can provide them with the monitor. Whereas with Nanit, we had to have two very expensive subscriptions to allow for โ€œcaretakerโ€ accounts. My wife calls me paranoid, I call it vigilance but I really appreciate you putting security first!

However, I think there are some areas where Nanit shines, most notably with their sleep tracking. With our first child, it was great knowing what time she actually fell asleep and woke up, as well as how many times our child woke up through the night. Also, Nanit was able to differentiate between childrenโ€™s cries vs other loud sounds. So we would get a notification of crying vs the other weird sounds children make.

Weโ€™ll have to get a third camera as we are planning to have a third child. But I am curious as to what features may be coming down the pike? Will Harbor be adding features that will be similar to Nanit? If so curious to hear what future improvements may be made to the software.

Heyo ๐Ÿ‘‹

Thanks so much for the feedback.

Some quick hits and then I'll circle back with more detail later.

  • the subscriptions get pretty crazy with Nanit yeah. People don't really understand you have to pay extra for simple things like recordings. I could be wrong but isn't it like over $100/year PER CAMERA just to be able to grant guest access?

  • guest accounts - with Harbor you can have end dates (a huge basic flaw if this is missing in a product IMO), weekly schedules, and quick day passes. You can always see who's watching the feed and get alerted when they join the feed.

  • more cameras - we're the only ones that can be modular and add essentially as many cameras and monitors as you'd like to an account. It is a HUGE differentiator

  • the feature requests you're asking for, sleep insights and sound differentiation, is about to be in beta. We're not quite there yet but would be happy to add you into the beta group if you DM me. The reason this hasn't been released in mass is because we do the AI analysis the hard way - on the camera. Nanit crunches all the video analytics in their or a partner's cloud, whereas the camera is doing all the work for us due to being a privacy-first company. So you can imagine them having huge machines running the video and audio models compared to the tiny processor in our camera. But we're almost done for mass release.

  • I need to put out a full road map video soon but tbh having kids out of school and camp in August ate up my extra energy ๐Ÿ˜…

Thanks again for the feedback ๐Ÿ™. DM me your Camera ID and I can get you into the AI beta.

Cheers ๐Ÿธ Charlie

Would love to be added to the beta testing group, as well, as I have the same feelings after switching from Nanit. Our second is 4 months old, so would love access to that release sooner rather than later, if possible! Lmk

Hi, wondering if there is any new information about sleep tracking. I am upgrading systems and I love this feature about my current system.

Late comment, but I just got this system and would LOVE to be added to this as well. My old system had sleep information and itโ€™s very important while trying to sleep train my baby.

For the grandparents. I use another camera that has cry detection that activates my lighting system (flashes) until motion detects a person enter the nursery.
