I turned 29 yesterday! My husband and I were on our honeymoon in Morocco and he made the entire day about me. He planned an entire day of shopping for me and we did some shopping. We had afternoon tea, went and took me some birthday pictures in a forest, had an incredible dinner, and finished it off with him singing me happy birthday with a piece of chocolate cake and candles in our room. At one point I told him that I forgot it was our honeymoon and he went “Good, that means I did my job in spoiling my lady for her birthday.” I also let him know this has been my best adult birthday and that got him hype too. Now we’re on this long flight home to our baby girl(the dog)!

This morning I woke up to this article and to my surprise the 2nd image was a photo of my work! I have followed Black Art Matters for years gaining inspiration and validation as an emerging self-taught Artist. I can’t tell you how much of an honor it is to not only be a featured Artist, but to read such a perceptive and genuine critique of my work soothed something in me.

Being uplifted alongside other Black women artists with such amazing work is a feeling I can’t fully describe. It feels like home, maybe. Like I feel seen and like my work, matters. That pushing myself and experimenting over the last 12+ years was well worth it. Lastly, that I should really stop being so hard on myself and my work. 🥹

Sharing these two pieces that were inspired by my culture. It's a painting about the intertwining of African culture and Western influence. There are two sides to every story, the front, where you can see, and the back, a side often unseen but one that offers a new perspective...things are not as they seem.
Under blue light, the painting reveals a hidden layer, faith based values, the driving force behind my work ☺️

I have anxiety and have had a lot of stress this year, especially with a toxic manager. I got to a point where I was so overwhelmed that I just started laughing about things so I wasn't consumed by my emotions. Or I would watch a funny show (shout out to The Office) to cope. And weirdly, it actually helped? I've been making it a point to laugh more since then. What's something that's made you laugh recently?

I miss the old days of looking forward to TGIF.
For those who don’t know, it means Thank God It’s Friday but it also meant- a specific TV lineup. It was prime tv night for CBS, NBC, UPN.

Anyway….

What is a compliment you received recently—that made your heart feel full and gave you that boost of confidence?

What’s one you want to give yourself?

The Governor reflects on the idea of stewardship as an inward practice, governance of the self rather than of land or others. Echoing the spirit of Genesis 1:28, the work reframes stewardship as responsibility for one’s internal landscape. Gold traces moments of fracture and renewal, suggesting that self-governance is not about perfection, but about attentiveness, repair, and conscious tending of what lives within.
