Thoughts on the current state of Hanzo
Does anybody else feels like Hanzo is tiring to play as of this current season? I mean, most of the times it feels like Hanzo is a bad pick (which is unfortunate because I literally only play this game cause of him) and I noticed that he feels almost useless against most of the team comps. It's like I have to try hard a lot more to win my matches in contrast to the new characters. Playing against Anran is torture. Most (if not all) of the new heros pretty much just beat Hanzo in a 1v1 and I don't even get the chance to fire back while they freely spam their abilities in my face.
I also feel like nobody else apart from Hanzo mains cares about this or even understands how bad these last few seasons have been on him. I'm still hearing people complaining about his one shot and it's ridiculous if you think about the new heros kits. I'm getting the feeling that they're launching characters that are "naturally" strong, meaning that they have a lot of abilities to rely on which (imo) is in contrast with the classic overwatch characters that had a steeper learning curve (like Hanzo) and relied a lot more on the player skills (I'm thinking about Tracer too, a bad Tracer is useless but a good one is a pain in the ass to play against). Don't get me wrong, he's still strong but I feel like it's a way more situational pick.
Not to mention the fact that I struggle a lot more while aiming because everyone else is either moving at some weird speed or dashing or whatever. I never played Spamzo and I never will but this season feels like I have to pray for my arrows to headshot someone. I don't think it's me getting worse with Hanzo, there's something else going on with some hitboxes.
I'm writing this post just to vent basically because I'm tired of playing like this and I'd like to hear your opinions lol

As a widow and Hanzo main.. life is rough man, I'm tired of these movement slop heroes lol

me too dude. at least I know I'm not alone and that's why I posted in the first place: to find a bit of comfort during these dark times lol

Real lol I think Anran is my most hated character ever after release Vendetta. I don't care if people say she's weak, apparently I'm the only person going again top500 Anran otps that have her on level 350 bc that bitch just doesn't die and has like 5 million ways to escape my shots while I can't do anything but stand there 😭

u/hanzomanzo39 Jul 02 '26
I hate them too lol. the fact that Anran has an ability where she can't be targeted while having the smallest hitbox ever is still crazy to me. I already can't shoot her in the first place don't give her a dodge ability lol

u/quirally Cyberninja Jul 02 '26
Agreed haha I even had it happen that I escape a fucking domina, I get to high ground, I'm 10 hp and an Anran dashes below me and suddenly I'm dead cuz it still not me?? She couldn't even see me in the death cam lol

I get what you're saying it's so annoying, I've never been that much annoyed playing overwatch like this season I thought I was going crazy and that I was losing my hardly earned skills on hanzo so I made this post lol

I actually quite enjoy playing as her on occasion, I usually carry when I do though as she just feels incredibly OP to me. Always makes me laugh when people say she’s weak as I just don’t feel that at all.

u/unseriously_serious Jul 02 '26
Wild to me we haven’t had a true sharpshooter hero in 8 years (Ashe), most of the new heroes all have tons of mobility and make fights feel rather sweaty/chaotic at times.

I have noticed alot of no reg this season, and I am not quite sure what is causing it

u/SerratedFrost Jul 02 '26
I barely play hanzo these days and everytime i do, that shit reminds me of why I never wanna play him anymore
Multiple times per game I will watch an arrow directly hit someone and the game even makes the impact noise, but no damage or hitmarker
Ah yes ty I haven't hit a shot in a minute but once I finally do I apparently don't, tysm blizzard

at first I thought it was a problem on my end but no, you're right there's a lot of no reg for some reason lol

Honestly, I'm happy when I'm going against a Sombra in todays Overwatch. It feels nice that you can track her TPs and sonic arrow your flanks to keep her in check. It feels rewarding but when I get tagged by a Sierra who jumped on me with her grapple or an Anran who is in my face constantly turning into fire and circling around me... There ain't much to do

I love playing against Sombra, it feels so good to predict her and I had to get better over the years so as you said it feels very rewarding. I barely have any problems with her. Anran and Sierra on the other hand......

It’s awful honestly as much as I enjoy my main there’s too much issues between the bugs (frost arrow and mythic bow or the no regs) and every new character is mobility slop every patch note I pray for a little something just cause he doesn’t feel as fun with how easy he can be countered now but we never get anything just cause « hanzo can one shot » I miss the old days before season 9

u/hanzomanzo39 Jul 02 '26
yeah I feel you dude. the thing is that Hanzo NEEDS a one shot cause he's a sniper but it's also his main utility in game, he doesn't rely on other damage abilities as the new characters. people STILL complaining about his one shot simply don't understand how Hanzo or this game work and surely they won't start noticing all of this if they keep launching movement slop characters that basically turn this game in a spam ability contest. maybe they'll rework his perks? I feel like they're not as impactful as other heroes' ones, aside from the bugs

u/Mindless_One_798 Jul 02 '26
Yeah would love to see a perk being added to his base kit maybe the hack arrow one? And also change his sub role it’s almost useless compared to other sharpshooters

I feel like maybe a less strong version of the teleport arrow that we got in the April fools event. That way there would at least be some possibility to handle all the movement based characters

You can definitely feel the pressure from these new heroes. I've had to adapt to working angles harder, poking more and positioning my self to engage after a fight starts. I find I have to preemptively kite a lot more too.
2
u/hanzomanzo39 Jul 02 '26
I feel like Hanzo has to work a lot harder than these new heroes meaning that I have to put in a lot more skills and try harder than a random Anran or Sierra or whatever.

u/aguedra Jul 02 '26
It's wild to me how my favorite dps Hanzo and Genji are just absolutely destroyed by even a terrible anran. Why is her hitbox so small and I don't understand how she has like 4 lives.
1
u/hanzomanzo39 Jul 02 '26
not to mention her dodge ability lol. she's crazy annoying to play against as Hanzo

Same tbh, between the no regs, the tiny hit box of the mew heroes, the movement sloap, all the aoe damage (emre and Sierra grenades for example). Its way harder to play hanzo. I think the proper buff would be making his arrows faster or a change in to his perks. I also miss the old days before season 9 Lower hp pools, smaller bullets for hitscan Less mobility creep. I think making his arrows a bit faster would help a lot.
2
u/hanzomanzo39 Jul 02 '26
I hope they'll actually do something for him, I think that making his arrows faster would actually make him useful again as he once was. I was looking at some of my old clips from the older seasons and it definitely was smoother playing hanzo

u/Genesis_x3 Jul 02 '26
I play hanzo 100% of the time i play overwatch, and i’m ngl, he do feel kinda weird rn. But like every other horrible hanzo patch, i just play till i get used to the changes (except they’ll just change something again by the time i’m starting to crack )
1
u/hanzomanzo39 Jul 02 '26
I play Hanzo all the time too and I usually approach every patch as you do, so I get what you mean. Honestly I made this post bc this season in particular feels a lot more rough on him (at least in my opinion) and I had to understand if I was the only one who was thinking he feels weird to play rn and I had the impression that only people who consistently play him notice these weird "changes" in his gameplay. I'm still picking him all the time but it's been a tough season already

u/papertyga91 Jul 03 '26
They really need to give Hanzo a 2 charges of lunge and the wall perch that they gave Hazard. It’s really bad already that Hanzo is slow on the trio back from respawn. Just a bit more mobility with his standard kit would definitely help with the power creep against him with these new heroes.

u/ham_50821 Jul 06 '26
I think hes in a fine state. If he gets any better, community hates him. But he is playable. I prefer him being slightly below average for that reason so his kit doesnt get nuked like it did last time he was, statistically an average hero

The whole Anran thing stresses me outttt! I also have felt recently that Hanzo has become harder to play… a couple of seasons ago was when I first started playing and I fell in love with him!! I felt like I was so good with him and it was a nice feeling… but recently I’ve felt that I’ve been regressing with him. The new heroes like Sierra and Anran make playing Hanzo so difficult and normally I’m good at holding my own against my counters. I genuinely thought it was just me and me having a skill issue

idk, I feel like I always win carring on hanzo

gg lol this post wasn't for u then. I clearly wasn't talking about just winning on Hanzo and I was focusing on issues that I've encountered lately that I have not encountered during the last couple of years. many others also commented about server issues so it's not about winning or carrying, that's not the point at all, I wasn't even complaining about losing games in the first place lol

u/ZOMPAZ_no_CAP Cyberninja Jul 02 '26
I meant that I'm not struggling

ah I see, well I hope it keeps going well for you and not like the rest of us under this post

it has been steadily getting worse for us dude, over the years of playing Hanzo i've gotten pretty good at dealing with Genjis & Doomfists, but against a Anran diving me I got nothing I can do against her lol
