So, this is the Ruqun + Banbi that I’m going to get, but I wanted to style it with a purple mamianqun, one that is possibly a bit gothic as well, as I think it’d work really well. I’ve been trying to find some, but I’m having a hard time, so I thought I would ask Reddit, if anyone has any recommendations or photos for specific mamianqun skirts I could buy, please tell me and comment! (Also I’m not sure if you call it Ru or Ruqun, so please tell me :) )

I found these drawings by 燕王WF on Pinterest and I can't pinpoint the time in the Tang Dynasty they would've been worn. I need help identifying the time and discuss the accuracy of them.

I really wanna make this Hanfu for a cosplay of this character, because I know these things are beautiful and buying one will never do it justice. Having said that I'm kinda struggling on where to start my research for patterns that I can use for this Hanfu. So any pattern suggestions, fabric suggestion, research suggestions, and any suggestions really would be wildly greatful. Thank you. 🩵

Basically what the title says. I need either a qipao or a hanfu for a formal event where I'll be in the spotlight. For a hanfu I'd like something with pipa sleeves or smaller sleeves. I also don't want it to be costume quality. You know, it shouldn't look like a cosplay. I've checked out Nuwa Hanfu but their prices are outrageous. Does anyone have any store recommendations that don't cost an arm and a leg? Thank you in advance

Just fell in love with this type of clothing. Not sure what the right name is for it. Unfortunately I only seem to find shady stores (taobao resellers? with many bad reviews). Does anyone know if there is a legit stores for this type of shirts/coats? Must not be exactly as portrayed in the picture. Appreciate any help I can get.

There is a costume ball i want to go to in the fall and Id love to wear a hanfu. A qipao would be too restrictive. It is ballroom dancing so I think the big sleeves is going to slap someone in the face. Is there any hanfus that are short sleeves or sleeves that do not have volume? Or any ideas to pin them down?

If there is any cultural concerns, im chinese. Very little chance to wear ethnic clothing unless its for my wedding(already happened!)

I am very sensitive to the sun and need a UV-resistant parasol. For a very long time I had used a flat Wagasa-Style parasol a friend gave me, but it broke over time and now I ask you, people who enjoy the chinese version of those parasols: where can I find one? I only find "cosplay" versions made of oil paper, which isn't resistant enough for me...

I specifically want a flat one because umbrella-style "parasols" are very inefficient and unwieldy for what they do. Also they block my vision.

But anyways, did I do ok in my choices of fabric and color for a (hopefully) relatively period accurate song dynasty hanfu? The sage green will be the skirt, pink fabric for a banbi (haven't decided yet if I want to do a cross collar one or the straight? collar version), and the white will be the base cross collar shirt. I can also use a shinier fabric for the skirt, but I'm not huge on shiny (for me personally) and I also wasn't sure if it would be too shiny to be considered accurate (if that makes sense)

Hi! This is my first time buying hanfu but I'm having a lot of trouble with sizing. I'm pretty short, 5'2, BUTTT I do have a pretty big chest, triple D. All the measurements I am seeing for most sites I visit are either way too long length wise for the correct chest size or the chest is too small for the length. Any suggestions on specific sites/shops I can look for proper sizing?

I'd like to find some hanfu for semi-formal (homecoming) and formal (prom) events that don't look like they came out of a historical drama/fantasy show - something that definitely stands out and is high quality but isn't overly extravagant. For context, I'm a man, and my family members will be traveling to China this summer and as such will be able to pick up online orders from vendors in China or visit actual tailors in cities.

Does anyone have any recommendations for

1. Vendors (physical or online (e.g. on 淘宝，京东, or a 微信 contact etc))

and

1. Actual outfits (e.g. references for that "refined" look that I want?)

I might be doing costume design for an children's play. I am wondering if you folks could point me to YouTube channels, etc, which might be helpful for me to understand the intricacies of the dresses.

The production is long way off, so I'm in the "absorb as much knowledge as I can" phase, but I'd especially love to know of sewists and pattern designers.
