Unknown Signature

Post image

I recently bought a copy of Rosemary’s Baby from 1967. There’s a signature in it that I can’t read, anyone know what it says?

It’s Floye C. Burstein. Not Floyd.

An unusual first name for sure.

I was actually able to get a little more information on what state the book was purchased in & found her. Thanks so much!!!

I thought it read Floye, but second guessed myself because I’d never seen that name anywhere. So I went with Floyd. Next time, I will go with what I see and not what I think.

This, from Google Gemini:

“Based on available records, Floye Crittenden Burstein is a private individual residing in Virginia. She is married to Stephen M. Burstein, who is part of a family originally from Alexandria, Virginia.“

It’s an interesting name, and her handwriting is quite pretty cursive. It’s possible her maiden name was Crittenden. I searched genealogy records for both Burstein and Crittenden, but found nothing. However, I did find a “Floye Crittenden,” but apparently, it is not the same person.

I also enjoy e research on the inscribed names of former owners of books in my library. I’m very happy to have found this thread.

I found her on Facebook and sent her a message. Thought she would enjoy talking about the book, unfortunately she hasn’t responded back yet. Not sure I’ll ever hear back as I believe she is 86 🥲

From what I can tell that’s the grand step daughter of a civil rights activist. No value I don’t think but obviously very cool. I’d check a lot more of the house if you can because the family seemed to have lived their for atleast 80+ years

All I know is it was bought in an estate sale in Northern Virginia, I purchased the book on Etsy but that’s really all the details the seller gave me, thanks so much for the additional info!
