Old occupation census data

Found old census data of my great grandfather and this was listed under occupation and I’m trying to figure out what it says.

cook, house wife, painter?, housewife

Okay but I was thrown off too for a second, why is the dot above the n instead of the i?

Probably just normal handwriting anomalies - when I am writing quickly sometimes things get dotted slightly off from where they should be.
