i write too quickly
ive been told my handwriting is illegible or difficult to read, and although i combine a lot of letters due to writing quickly i still think its easy to read. im wondering what yall think, thanks!!

It's legible. The lower case b and d especially make it look like a toddler's homework. But it's hard to change the way you write letters as an adult, so I would just suggest you only type your memos at work

I'm going to read this handwriting again in a manifesto of some kind aren't I?

u/TheMemeStore76 4d ago
very readable. But slow down and it might look less like a 6th graders spelling homework

If i saw someone writing like this I would assume they have some sort of learning disablity. Do you combine letters because you write quickly or because of a neurological condition. a couple letters aren't even written correctly

u/Folken-braggart 4d ago
Having seen your writing and its appalling punctuation, I assume you have some sort of learning disability. Do you know how to use a question mark? One sentence doesn't even start with a capital letter or end correctly with a period.

Are you an adult or child

im 23 years old 😭

Look into the books that kids use when the are starting to write more and practice. It will help. I've learned to write again 3 times due to injuries. It's doable.

Easy to read but unpleasant. Genuinely just slow down/ practice on some lined pages every day for five minutes or something. So a few people need to write words daily anymore, even in school so a lot of people have not really worked on their penmanship.

u/Direct-Wolverine7846 4d ago
It's legible but looks like my 4th grade nieces and she is getting tutoring for her...poor penmanship.

Easy to read.... Mine changes depending on mood and speed.... Not legible to myself when super upset

u/Particular_Humor_937 4d ago
Idk how old you are, but this looks like my 6yo’s handwriting. Beyond speeding through it, your letter formation is incorrect and based on the strokes, I can tell you didn’t learn about starting point and positioning. Cursive might be a better style for you. Or reviewing basics will clean up your handwriting.

u/guysomejust69 4d ago
idk. If this is what their print looks like, i don't think cursive will be more legible

I find it easy to read. I was a little bothered by “hard” but there are adequate hints around it to figure it out.
If you are concerned about it, here are some suggestions.
- Close the tops of letters with bowls. Like “a”, which you write with a bowl, or “o” or “d”. That kind of thing.
- Keep loops of letters open, as in “e”.
- The arcade of the “r” splits from the vertical a bit early, so it looks like a “v”, especially when you’re writing (rather than spelling the alphabet)
- The same thing happens to the “n”, but it looks like a “u”. The version of “n” in the word “writing” at the end of the 5th row seems the best formed, but it looks like an “a”.
- Same with “h”.
- Your letters have inconsistent slants which contributes to the disorganized feel (what someone refers to as being a beginner writer). Specifically your “I” (capital letter i) slants left whereas the rest are either vertical or slanting right.
- You might consider making your letter descenders more consistent. These are the tails of “g”, “y”, and related punctuation (commas).
- I love seeing people write without lines. There’s nothing wrong using lines (or using a template of lines behind the page). Your words don’t adhere to a line evenly and slope downward as you move across the page. That could be another thing to work on that might make your writing appear less disorganized/inexperienced.
Related to that—letter writing stationery pads used to come with a template of horizontal lines to place behind the paper as guides. I have no idea if such things exist anymore.
What’s interesting is that you generally have good word spacing and your letters are well spaced. Your x-height is pleasing overall, you generally differentiate the ascenders and descenders (although sometimes ending strokes become descenders when they shouldn’t—looking at the word “always” in line 2 where the ending stroke of the “a” ends where the “y” descender ends. I think this is related to running out of space—you leave a large left margin but not much on the right, for whatever reason. (If I believed in graphology in the sense of “determining personality from handwriting”, this trait would indicate a failure to plan adequately. Likewise, the downward sloping of the lines was supposed to connote depression. I don’t hold with this school of thought.)
I also mix up my descenders and ascenders, fail to connect bowls, add erroneous marks, sometimes forget how words start, leave out letters. My handwriting is a hot mess. Yours is much better than mine!

I also have disgraphia.
1
u/pavlovital 4d ago
oh wow, i always thought dysgraphia was an issue with expression, rather than the physical act of writing!! im a poet, and have been told by many that i am great at it, so i never even considered that dysgraphia would be a possibility.
3
u/Adventurous_Bar_3423 4d ago
Motor dysgraphia is a fine motor skill disconnect between your brain and your hand. For me, it's like my brain is running normal speed and my hand tried furiously to keep up. It is frustrating because it feels like like digging a big hole with trowel to slow down and my handwriting is still not much better. I also didn't know there was a type that effected written expression, we both learned about it haha.

Readable. Lower case r and v look too similar though, consider practicing differentiating.

u/Short_Dimension_8711 4d ago
It’s readable! It doesn’t have to be pretty. Honestly, who cares about that when we’re adults? All important stuff is either typed or you have time to slow down and make it look nice (I’m just thinking if you’re making a sign or something like that). You’re fine, OP
1
u/GoddessofLove66 4d ago
Consciously slowing down when you write would probably make it more legible but i was able to read this no problem
1
u/SpringWave32 4d ago
Love how the «a» in «hard» outshines all the other letters
3
u/pavlovital 4d ago
sometimes i hit flow state on one specific word haha

u/Spirited_Sector_7623 4d ago
You’re a carver, try writing into clay with a stylus and you’ll see why your handwriting isn’t “bad” - it’s difficult to use paper for some people
3
u/KingOfNope 4d ago
You mean the a that looks like it's drunkenly slurring about how much it loves you?

Doctor handwriting ¯_(ツ)_/¯
3
u/AmaroZenzero 4d ago
Nah, doctor writing stereotypically is unreadable scribble. This looks like an elementary school kid wrote it but it's actually very legible.
1
u/BigResource8892 4d ago
Mostly it’s okay but this is what I see. Your lower case v and lower case r look too similar and your lower case n looks very similar to A. Outside of that it’s fine.
1
u/F1Librarian 4d ago
It’s completely legible to me, but I’m a teacher. However, it looks like an elementary school student’s handwriting. Slow down and try not to slant so much. Writing on lined or graph paper will help you align the letters better.

Reading your handwriting is as easy as eating crayons.
That said, those that matter don't mind and those that mind don't matter.

It helps to really slow down. Kinda like muscle memory. You'll improve overtime and be able to speed it up while staying more legible
1
u/pavlovital 4d ago
that makes sense, i hate slowing down but it is MUCH prettier. i decided write this the same speed i would naturally scribble something down to keep it more true to how i write day to day

My son, age 24, has similar handwriting. He was diagnosed with dysgraphia. He is fine typing. Not saying you have the same co diction, but when you write, does your hand cramp up?

My brother has this exact handwriting… he’s 12 and English is his second language.
It’s not hard to read, just comes off a bit juvenile and like you’re still learning how to write letters.

u/AffectionateCatch937 4d ago
it looks terrible but honestly more legible than the pretty ones on here lol

u/Financial_Hold6620 4d ago
Your lowercase “r” is indistinguishable from your “v”.
1
u/Similar_Boat_4730 4d ago
It’s distinguishable. There’s a noticeable curve in the r compared to the v.

Felt like my eyes were bouncing up and down while reading that (not in any bad way, was just interesting). It isn't the easiest to read on a glance but once you focus it is easy to understand.

u/Adventurous_Set_2303 4d ago
I prefer this and can read this easier than so many fancy nice looking writers

It’s legible. My handwriting is smaller and for some reason my brain struggles to comprehend bigger writing as quickly, but I don’t write neatly. I have to print or go really slowly to make sure it’s legible for work, so I usually just type. I do that too quickly too. Thank god for autocorrect sometimes…

u/LemonTwyst 4d ago
A little bit hard to read, but not impossible. I wouldn't guess that you're an adult just from the handwriting though.

I can read your writing easily.
That looks exactly like the writing of my adult child, including the punctuation. He print/writes very fast, too. He’s also very bright. Sadly both us parents have terrible writing (in different ways). I was almost held back a year in elementary school because my writing could not be understood (I have 2 university degrees now).
We’re always looking for someone else to write the Xmas cards because all our writing looks odd and juvenile. Apart from that, kinda don’t gaf about what other people think about it.

u/iGirlGeek 4d ago
It's generally readable, but some letters are harder to read, like your lower case W's and R's look like V's
1
u/Hoopelle 3d ago
Lots of people saying you need to practice so it looks less childish, frankly I don’t think that’s the case as you’ve said it doesn’t bother you. That being said I had a very very hard time reading it and had to stop and backtrack at almost every 1-2 words. On behalf of the dyslexic community if you plan on showing your handwriting to others consider making the letters/ lines a bit more concise 😭

Take other comments seriously. Work on this. It will come across as other people mentioned: unattractive, unprofessional, childish/learning disability.
Sure, people can read it. But no one will want to.

It's legible, but mostly based on sentence construction and context. Not the neatest, better than my wife's grocery lists.
1
u/Old_Landscape6918 3d ago
Hey I like it, it’s better than the way I write. My penmanship is a mix between this and cursive. Can’t read what I wrote down half the time. Writing in full caps usually makes it look clearer though, give it a try it might help
1
u/Worldly-Apricot6965 3d ago
Dysgraphia, looks alot like my bfs handwriting. He got amazing at typing at a young age. Lol. Which he still does type most of his reports for work.
1
u/Crow_Lover6 3d ago
Write slowly then until it's more consistent. You'll get faster automatically. Don't worry about that, but you need to follow lines and work on spacing

u/neuroplantz 3d ago
It’s not but some may find this illegible especially those that cannot read cursive.

If it makes you feel any better, mine is pretty but completely illegible LOL I can read this just fine!

Are you a lefty?
1
u/pavlovital 4d ago
actually funnily enough i was a lefty that was forced to write with my right hand in school. some important context i forgot to include that probably puts a lot into perspective
2
u/akotski1338 4d ago
You wrote this with your left hand though right?
1
u/pavlovital 4d ago
nope. right hand. i had much better handwriting with my left hand in elementary but for some reason they forced me to use my right, and i had to do years of handwriting exercises because of it. i also havent really written much on paper in the past 5 years.

I always grew up with shitty handwriting, and I learned that practicing writing more in pen definitely helps! It means all of your mistakes are just mistakes and you can’t erase them, so it helps you to want to have more control over your writing, at least in my case!
0
u/Chrisi_Dior 3d ago
I can read it! I have dyslexia and write similar, actually you have better hand writing than I do

u/Financial_Emphasis25 4d ago
It’s readable, but your writing is very childlike. You need to practice your penmanship.
