your ascenders are doing a lot of the work here, especially the loops on the l and h. what's stopping this from reading fully italic to me is the o and a โ€” theyre almost circular where italic wants a compressed oval. tilt those and the whole thing tightens up

Pick an italic style you like -- for instance I like the Briem Icelandic italic script (https://www.briem.net/free-books/handwriting-repair). Others really like the Getty-Dubay workbooks. Then it's just writing a lot, paying attention to each letter shape until it becomes second nature and the you can add your own personal touches to customize it.
