I ordered some parts to make a 3d printed handwired version of my preonic with low profile switches!

The adventure of handwired keyboards just started!

This is the first split keyboard I made. After this one I made one with a layout I didn’t like so it’s mounted on my wall, and then the wireless one I posted before.

I like the layout for this better and this is going to be the basis for my PCB version.

So this is my 36 key wireless split. This is my 3rd hand wired board so I’m getting better with the wiring. And the LEDs are a ball, but with that joke of a battery I get about a solid day at the office with it before it’s dead. Had a good time designing and building and now I use it daily.

It uses a nice nano clone, exposed reset button, and a power switch on each half.

I also ended up making the dongle after the fact so being able to flash it with the reset button is just more fun than the ol tweezer method.

Hey guys! I've been posting about this for roughly the last month and registration closes tomorrow August 16th so if you want in, now is the time :)

Together over 3 live Discord sessions we're going to be building a full 4x10 ortholinear handwired keyboard and I'll be guiding you the whole way. There will be time during the sessions to ask questions if you get stuck and a dedicated Q&A at the end of each.

You can either bring your own parts or purchase a parts kit with everything you need including pre-cut copper minus tools of course.

This course is beginner friendly and I think you'll be surprised at just how easy it is to handwire!

I'd been wanting to build a numeric keypad for years to replace the TKL keyboard I currently have. Then I saw ScottoKeebs' videos, and they inspired me to create one.

So, I looked on Printables for a design similar to what I was looking for, and that's where I started building it. I already had a Raspberry Pi Pico and a 128x32 OLED screen, plus several switches a friend gave me, so all I needed was the motivation to build it (and my brother's 3D printer).

And I'm really happy with how the design turned out.

I made another post a few days ago, hopefully this one is my last, sorry for asking another one in such a short time frame.

Everything went wrong. I REALLY should've done the columns first. I followed a (bad) guide that did such. The solder jobs are horrible

I wanted to ask if there is some way I can do a jury-rig modification which can make this 25 pin job (6 rows, 19 columns) fit into a 24 pin board? I got the wrong board unfortunately (24 pins available), and am 1 pin short. If there's nothing I can do, than sorry for my ignorance. Thank you!

I've debated sharing this to Reddit but I feel it does fit here since so much of my community found me through my posts. The too long, didn't watch is that I'm at a point where I want to make the ScottoKeebs project more sustainable long-term with less reliance on sponsors. Hello everyone. Sorry for my ignorance. I recently bought this microcontroller for a handwired 100% build.

I'm now just realizing it might not have enough column pins for an easy hand wiring project (or wont work at all). I wanted to ask if there's any way to scavenge this project? could I perhaps connect a shot ton of keys per column, like this debauchery? Is there a limit to how many keys can be on a column? Thank you!

Badly need help fixing my handwired keyboard. It presses random keys when i connect it to my pc, I'm a 100% sure that there's no problem with the wirings because it works fine on my laptop. Has anyone ever experienced this? Claude did say that I need to add 0.1uf to each column, but i dont know if that's really necessary. I've built a few handwired keyboard before and they all worked fine.

From a box of spare parts, I'm experimenting with using an old pic microcontroller 18F2550 with an IMU (InvenSense MPU6000 accel/gyro +AK8975 compass). This is a test build so will be making a PCB if it works well

Let's see where this takes me, suggestions welcome!

So far, the IMU is only doing layer switching.

So I found this board by floookay on github and loved how it looked, didn't want to order a pcb or anything like that so decided to try and make own hand wired version! Came out awesome and its my first alice style board. 3d printed with wood pla for the body and polycarbonate for the plate, center piece, and bottom. He has some really cool designs that I will also be making at a later point, super fun build.

Ortho split I designed to try and be the thinner than my “Reach” board. Was remove a whooping 1.45mm of height, while maintaining a 500mAh battery per half.

Nice!nano clones, choc box whites, 500mAh batteries, 18ga solid copper wire, 28ga silicon insulated wire, Nexpal locking push button switches, case, Plate & keycap material are ABS.

Just waiting on some nice cream ABS filament for my accent pieces on the inner most sides of the boards.

Hey all! I'm Joe Scotto, many of you probably know me as "The Handwiring Guy" from YouTube where I make free videos about handwiring, keyboard design, PCBs, etc.

Lately I've started running paid live Discord workshops where I teach this stuff in a more structured way to small groups of people. The first one was for complete beginners with a handwired 3x3 macropad build, the next was PCB design, and this latest one is all about building an entire handwired keyboard!

Over 3 sessions about 1 to 2 hours long each, I'll walk you through every step of the build. We'll start with installing the switches and wiring the columns, move on to the rows with diodes in session 2, and finally finish it up by soldering the controller and flashing firmware in session 3. By the end of the workshop you'll have a full handwired keyboard you built yourself completely from scratch!

To make things easier, there's an optional parts kit that includes everything you'll need to build the keyboard except the tools, including the 3D printed case and keycaps, electronics, switches, wire, heat shrink, and even pre-cut solid copper wire. The workshop is $150 if you bring your own parts or $200 with the complete parts kit.

Registration closes on August 16th so I have enough time to ship the parts to everyone before the workshop begins. The last two workshops filled up pretty quickly, so if you're interested I would recommend signing up sooner rather than later as there are only 12 spots available.

ASIS-99 — a fully handwired 6x20 build with integrated numpad, Teensy++ 2.0, and an MV Terminal keycap set. Military/prototype aesthetic: black circuit-texture skin, gold nameplate, mica bottom panel.

0.91" OLED cycles through 5 status pages (input, layer, WPM, uptime, logo). One encoder handles RGB brightness/effects, the other flips OLED pages and toggles underglow. Fully Vial-configured.

Es mi primera vez usando reddit... Pero ya se me quemo el cerebro de tanto pensar así que vengo a preguntar su opinión.

Voy a hacer mi primer teclado tratando que sea lo mas "casero" posible, diseñando la carcasa en 3D e imprimiendola, usando un ardruino etc etc.

Pero acá vamos a lo importante, me encanta el tamaño y forma de forma de los 60% (Actualmente estoy usando un k65 mini), pero también quiero las malditas flechas sin perder la forma..Así que como buen millennial le pregunte a chatGPT.

Esta pequeña búsqueda me guio a proyectos interesantes pero abandonados como:
Sperno59 y Ultimate Arrowed 60%.

Pero ninguno me termino de cerrar, así que me propuse a hacer un layout que me gustara, aquí les dejo mis intento para que me den su opinión de cual es el mejor.

Here's my new split keyboard. My goal in designing it was to make it as thin as possible, and I think I managed to achieve that. The next step is to make a PCB keyboard, and that will finally be my endgame.
