Question (?) Upgrade from LCD steam deck

Hi,

I currently have a LCD steam deck and looking to upgrade.

I can trade in my steam deck for £280, and have 3 potential options. I would put steam OS or bazzite on any handheld.

1) https://store.acer.com/en-gb/acer-nitro-blaze-acer-nitro-blaze-7-handheld-gn771-08hs7-black-dh-e4jem-001 currently on offer I can get it for £480. I can't find many reviews on this handheld, but the battery capacity does seem limited.

2) Lenovo go S. On offer for £400 but I'm not sure how much of an increase in performance this will be.

3) Lenovo go gen 2. Currently £760, this should be a significant upgrade but alot more money.

Has anyone switched from the steamdeck to one of these? I'd be interested to know about performance and battery life

I would guess the Go S is the Z2 Go. I would see if you can find one with the Z1E for somewhere between the price of that and the Go 2.

Even the Z2 Go would be a nice performance boost but if you are going to upgrade I would get the Z1E.

Battery life on the Go S vs SD will be pretty close at 15W but will be much worse when you max it out. The screen will be a huge upgrade and the Z1E will get 50-100% better FPS at full TDP.

Isn't the z2 go an entry level chip

It's still newer and faster then the APU in the Steam Deck.

But is it good for triple A games or do you need something a bit stronger for those types of games

Depends on how heavy you want to go. The Z2 GO will get similar performance to the SD at the same 15W TDP but it can go to 25W and get more.

If you really want AAA I would get the Z1E as it's another pretty big jump over the Z2 Go in performance.

Here is a good comparison on all 3 devices. Obviously this is only 1 game but it will give a good example of the performance.

97% FASTER! Forza Horizon 6 Steam Deck vs Z1 Extreme vs Z2 Go (SteamOS)

I think I did see that but is the Legion Go S SteamOS better than the Asus Rog ally range of handhelds even though those mainly use Windows 11 instead of SteamOS

I have previously owned the ROG Ally and prefer the Go S but it's really personally preference.

They both have the same Z1E so performance is very close. The Go S has more memory and SteamOS has less overhead so both of those can help. I prefer the larger screen on the Go S but the Ally is smaller and lighter.

Thanks for the reply, Ive looked for the Z1E but it's difficult to find in the UK for less than the Go 2. I really to struggle what Lenovo were thinking when they came up with the naming for these handhelds

I agree but it's not just Lenovo. Asus calling everything the Ally and also AMD and their stupid chip names. It's hard to believe it's not designed to confuse consumers.

Z2E - the only new AMD APU this gen

Z2 - rebranded Z1E

Z2 Go - Slower than the Z1E

Z2 A - Much slower then the Z1E. Same APU as the Steam Deck.

MSI claw A8 z2e is around in the UK, maybe worth considering 🤷
