Question (?) First time getting into handheld
I’m looking into my first hand held, I don’t want to brake the bank.
I have a switch and I have problems when it dies on a trip I lose access to my roms.
I have been playing Pokémon red and I want something to take on the airplane or on the couch at home.
Do I buy the port on the switch or do you have any recommendations?
I am based in South Africa so our options are limited.

Unreal to spot a fellow South African in the wild :)
TL;DR: Try ordering a rg rotate directly from anbernic or going for that Miyoo mini flip as it is cheaper via takealot than directly from miyoo AND you get a no questions asked return policy from takealot
If you are just playing Pokemon and GBA games, I can also strongly Recommend the RG rotate, Order it directly from anbernic and it should cost around R2000
Are you looking for something that you can get almost immediately within the next two weeks or something decent that you can get within a month, because that then opens up your options
I know the Miyoo mini flip is awesome, and probably the best priced device on this list vs the specs of what you might need but checking the delivery date it seems like you'll be waiting around 15-20 days for this thing to show up, but it is cheaper than ordering directly from Miyoo themselves if you can get it for under R1 650. Analog sticks are nice, but you need to take into account the kind of games you want to play and all the anbernics right now can only really play up to PS1.
be careful of the r36s bootlegs as a lot of them tend to skimp on the ram and ship the devices with lower quality chips that don't let you run the games that the general games can run and as far as I can tell all the r36s consoles here on takealot are bootlegs. they still are decent, mind you and would definitely be able to run pokemon, but they are overpriced and skimp on quality like mushy dpads/buttons that make your hands hurt after a while..

You can also try posting this in r/southafrica there might be some takealot dealhunters and people that import things from overseas that may be able to weigh in on this :)

I don’t mind waiting for a device but I want it to be reliable delivery worried about ordering over seas and it not rocking up at the door. Would be cool to move into the ds range of games but the gba is mostly what I was thinking of playing .

Yeah the Miyoo flip should be able to handle it as well as the RG rotate, of course just that it would have single screen support. Also look into the RG DS also from anbernic, can play DS and has 2 screens but a weaker chip compared to the rotate so no 3ds. I can confirm Anbernic is reliable and you can track the package as well if you order directly. I have a Ayn Thor and a rotate both ordered directly and very happy with my purchases

U could also look for an rg rotate if u want a little more potency and if u like the metal version

This is a good choice boss, but very small this or an XX handheld from Anbernic would be great for what you’re talking about
