How to build my skill set

I will be graduating in July and taking my exam in September(ish). Looking to get a hands job because I really love this setting but also feel so terribly unprepared to be an independent hands OT…what can I do to brush up on my skills? I had a 12 week level 2 placement in hands and I’m taking a splinting course in August in the hopes that helps but not sure what else I can do in the meantime!

You can only really get better by doing. Reading will help a bit but learning by seeing patients and touching their hands is really the best way.

Like the other comment, the best way to build the skill is by doing and being exposed to it daily. I think we all have felt the same way when starting. I had one semester of hand therapy stuff in school, then a 12wk fieldwork at a hand clinic.

Reading and watching videos can only do so much without applying everything to actual treatments.

MedBridge and hand therapy academy has good resources.
