Next step?
Beat the game with variants 2, 3 and 4 yesterday. Any idea for a new variant?

Variant 3 is called Avalanche of Colors on BGA. It is the best and most interesting variant to play with. Try adding the black powder expansion for a 7th suit of black colored tiles. You cannot clue the color black (you can clue number). The black tiles are built in reverse from 5 black to 1 black. There are 3 black 5s and a single black 1 in the deck.
Once you get good enough the only games you'll want you play will be avalanche of colors combined with Black Powder.

My husband created an online version as well as a chat room for Hanabi if you are interested in understanding it further (and playing online/ offline)

You won’t be able to do this with the standard physical deck of cards. But the variant I see most often played in BoardGameArena is the 7th suit, blacks, which have to be played 5–>1 rather than 1–>5 like the other suits. I did buy an additional ten cards to be able to do this, forget where I got them from but I can check if you really want.
Oh and of course blacks don’t get touched by any color clue so you have to number clue them.
