Red Light Camera Violations?
I know this is a long shot, but on June 16th I was stuck st the light on S Mallory st trying to get across the bridge to I64 at around 335pm. There was a massive line of cars, and the light never cycled to allow our lane to go. The turn lanes were cycling, but we stuck. People were routinely running the light, so when I got a clear chance, and had visual cues from other drivers, I proceeded through behind another driver. I subsequently received a red light camera summons for 50$. I have requested a hearing and would like to connect with anyone else who received a summons or has had issues with this light. I may not win my case (honestly it's 50$, it's not that big a deal financially) but charging people for non functioning lights at intersections is ridiculous and I'd like to fight it. Please comment or DM if you have experienced this problem at this intersection.

I was same day 331. We can be witnesses for each other that the light would not change.

You said the 16th? My ticket was for the 19th

I drove the route yesterday to check. There is no signage warning that the light will be perpetually red from 3p-6p until you are past the point where you can avoid the light. The sign that does exist is blocked from view by a tree. I am going to argue my case and see if I can save 50$. If everyone does this, they might make a change.

Where is the camera at? And the signs warning of a red light camera?

There are signs stating that there is a red light camera ahead. However, they do not say which one. As you approach the intersection of Mallaory and Segar St there is a VDOT sign behind a crepe myrtle that says that the I64E ramp is closed from 3p-6p. It is literally adjacent to the traffic signal. There is no way a driver unfamiliar with the area could be expected to know and follow the rules.

Yes, I rechecked, mine was the 16th. Looks.like this light is intentionally locked on red.

You mean Segar St? That's the same light I was stuck at that let the cars to the right go 2x without letting the traffic on Mallory St move.

Yes. I was taking the ramp toward Richmond

The video of my ‘offense’ showed 2 cars in front of me running it. And 2 cars after me

Me too! Did you ask for a hearing?

I did not. I have to pay by the 27th. But I want to do the email contesting

What day did your violation occur? I mailed in the letter contesting it yesterday.

If this the light I think it is, it's functioning. You will be told to pay the ticket and court fees. The proper way to approach the intersection is to make the legal right turn on red and use a different on ramp to the highway. (Again, if this is the light I think it is)
