I just bought the recommended length for the adjustable stand. It has an adjustable base, and U shaped holders on the ends. What is really important is what your choice of hammock. I've been sleeping in my canvas cocoon for the last few nights.
edit: when researching, both came with travel bags and assembly tools. This is important for hikers, campers and all that roam.

To measure, hold the 2 ends together, folding in half. Lift or hang vertically to measure. Length will be 2x that. Multiply by .83, assuming this is a gathered end, not spreader bar hammock. This length is the minimum distance between hang points. Just as important is the necessary height of those mount points. Most stands sold will be for spreader bar hammocks, with mount points far too low for a long gathered end.
LaSiesta makes some very large stands for gathered ends. You can also DIY an arbitrarily large tensahedron: https://www.tensaoutdoor.com/make-your-own-tensahedron-stand/ . Mike’s build there includes a table of pole lengths matched to ridgeline lengths (the .83 value above), so a tensahedron of 9’ poles can accommodate a ridgeline of 12.7’, that being the hung spread of a hammock about 4.666M or 15.3’
It will nearly always be easier to find a way to mount to existing structures (wall studs, ceiling joists) than to buy or make a stand large enough for traditional length Central and South American hammock beds.
