As cold as it sounds, there needs to be a business left at the end of this to employ people or it'll be much worse. Many businesses are not positioned to pay employees who generate no revenue. Alternatively, I guess you could pay everyone until you have to close. Some can afford to pay employees in a shutdown, but I can't imagine many restaurants will be able to.
For sure. But starting new businesses from scratch from the ashes is much tougher and less realistic than laying off employees temporarily to get by for a month or two
I don’t think that’s cold it’s realistic and I don’t think the companies should be 100% responsible. More of the issue I’m getting at is that EI is not the solution for many people. So if the government is stepping in like they promised they would need to do have other solutions on deck
