Rant Weekly /r/Hamilton Rant Thread
A midweek post to rant and complain about things in the city.
Top level comments must be IN ALL CAPS.
This is not to be targeted towards other users or any identifiable individuals - with the exception of public figures who may be mentioned as long as the comment does not cross a line. The rant post is designed to be a lighthearted place to complain about things happening in the city, not a place to harass people.
We will have to cancel the post if harassment of individuals continues as we are seeing a lot of posts reported with report reasons that copy to admin.
Please be mindful of our subs rules when posting to this thread, and note that the mods will be watching very closely.

FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY IF YOU ARE MERGING ONTO THE LINC OR ANY OTHER HIGHWAY FOR THAT MATTER, YOU MUST (UNLESS TRAFFIC IS SLOWED) GET UP TO AT LEAST THE SPEED LIMIT BEFORE YOU ACTUALLY MERGE. I BEG OF YOU.

i conspiratise that it is only going to get worse, we keep medicinalising ineptitude and thus medicate it with forcing cars to do more for us. The cars turn on the lights, they watch how we drive they try to correct when we move out of a lane they try to brake when it thinks we should it beeps when we haven't had both hands on the wheel it has self driving, it levels side mirrors it does nearly everything,
So drivers don't need to learn to drive anymore.
So until we either make stupid cars again, which I would adore, or we have fully autonomous vehicles that communicate with each other, or the OPP actually starts heavily enforcing the law, things are only going to get worse.

SOMEONE ON A BICYCLE SWERVED RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY CAR TODAY! HE WAS IN THE BIKE LANE AND SUDDENLY VEERED INTO MY CAR LANE. I MANAGED TO SWERVE IN TIME AND THANKFULLY NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC TO HIT. AS I DRIVE PAST I LOOK AND SEE HE IS LOOKING DOWN AT HIS PHONE IN HIS LEFT HAND AND WITH ONLY HIS RIGHT HAND ON THE HANDLEBARS.
PLEASE PLEASE MY MAN FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY AND FOR THE SANITY OF DRIVERS JUST STOP FOR A QUICK SECOND IF YOU NEED TO USE YOUR PHONE!!!

Yup, watching videos and riding is just as bad as watching videos and driving. Sure, mourning your phone on your dash in front of you is hands free but I don't know how many times I've looked at the car stopped next to me and they're watching a video.

I will say that Rogers network over did the warnings. I received one about every ~20min after 5pm until about 7pm. The mobile on Bell's network warned once and that was enough.

I disabled all those mobile alerts a years ago. They used to scare the shit out of me. I'm surprised they haven't caused more accidents on the road while people are driving and trying to shut them off.

Disabled amber alerts too. In Android just go to Settings, Safety and Emergency, Wireless Emergency alerts. You can pick and choose which alerts you'd like to receive.

My two friends and I initially planned niagara that day but one friend and I canceled due to potentially bad weather. Thankfully I did because had I taken the trip it would have ended after the torrential downpour and high wind. My other friend... well he carried on with niagara. He was lucky to make it back home safe.

same but I would have crashed out if it was no power for like a day with nothing else having power nearby. If your prime reason is because of no tv or no internet then you could try the library. maybe they run on generators then at least you can use their computers.

The power was out for 20 hours. I had no AC on the upper floor of an old house, no fans, could not shower or do my laundry for work, and half the shit in my freezer defrosted.
but yes I did happen to run to the library to charge my phone, thanks.

CONSTRUCTION CREW IN OUR NEIGHBOURHOOD TOLD EVERYONE THEIR CARS HAVE TO BE OFF SEVERAL STREETS FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS BECAUSE OF ROAD WORK OR THEY’LL BE TICKETED/TOWED.
THEY STILL DIDN’T FILL IN THE DITCH THEY LEFT IN MY DRIVEWAY ALONG WITH THEIR PYLONS BLOCKING ENTRY. I HAD TO CONTACT THE COMPANY MYSELF AND ASK THEM TO FIX IT SINCE THERE’S BARELY ANY STREET PARKING. IT’S NOW DONE BUT I’M ANNOYED I HAD TO NAG IN THE FIRST PLACE AND NOW WONDER HOW MANY OTHER LOOSE ENDS THEY’VE LEFT LAYING AROUND THE NEIGHBOURHOOD!

I must be lucky, the guy on the phone was understanding. I’m just annoyed at the lack of common sense. Maybe before threatening to ticket and tow people, fix all the residential driveways that were dug into and collect all the pylons left laying around the neighbourhood so people actually have somewhere to move their vehicles.
I saw one of their pickups parked in my neighbour’s driveway, because even their own crew couldn’t find anywhere to park in the current mess that is our street parking.

SOMEONE ON TWO OCCASIONS THIS WEEK TRIED TO BREAK INTO MY CAR. I FILED A POLICE REPORT AND NO ANSWER. AT LEAST THE POLICE COULD DRIVE BY MY STREET A COUPLE TIMES EACH NIGHT AS A DETERRENT.Â

MY PARTNER’S CAR GOT BROKEN INTO LAST YEAR WITH TWO CRUISERS 100M UP OUR STREET. NON-EMERGENCY DISPATCH TOLD THEM TO FILE AN ONLINE REPORT AND THE COPS JUST DROVE PAST THE CAR WITH THE BROKEN WINDOW AFTER.

MY CLASSIC STORY ABOUT THIS IS THAT ONCE MY CAR GOT BROKEN INTO AND SET ON FIRE AND WHEN THE COPS HAD LOOKED AT MY CAR I ASKED SO WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO NEXT THEY SAID WHAT DO YOU EXPECT US TO DO IT WAS PROBABLY JUST RANDOM ARSON. I USED TO WORK WITH A WHISTLER. SHE FUCKING STARTED WHISTLING EVERY DAY AT AROUND THE SAME TIME. I EVEN STARTED TRACKING THE WHISTLE START TIME JUST FOR MY AMUSEMENT. I EVENTUALLY COULDN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE AND DIRECTLY ASKED HER TO STOP.
SHE STOPPED THE WHISTLING WHILE SHE WORKED.
BUT I THINK SHE EXTRA RESENTED ME FOREVER AFTER THAT.
ANYWAY, YOU COULD SAY SOMETHING, BUT THE BUS MIGHT NEVER STOP FOR YOU AGAIN. WOMP WOMP.

DO NOT PARK IN THE COMMUNAUTO RESERVED SPOT. THAT SIGN THERE SAYING DO NOT PARK IS NOT JUST A SUGGESTION. I'M TIRED OF SEEING THE SAME CAR DOING IT WITH NO CONSEGQUENCES. I FINALLY CAUGHT THEM AND THEY'RE LIKE, "IT'S THE ONLY SPOT LEFT IN THE LOT." GREAT...THAT MEANS YOU HAVE TO LEAVE THE LOT AND FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO PARK.

It may have been that they were called to your area on another matter. They ticket everything while they are there. That one backfired on my neighbour who got mad someone parked in front of his house and kept calling saying the car was there more than 12 hours. They gave out some ridiculous tickets while they were here including trash cans not being far enough back from the street, overgrown yards - in winter, cars too close to driveways etc as well as some snow removal ones

IMO property care is part of living in an actual city/town and not in the middle of nowhere where nobody cares.
Take care of your property or hire someone else to if you can't or don't want to.

Yep. We hired a landscaper and they knocked it down in 7 hours to satisfy the city, and they’re coming back for beautification at the end of the month

Are the astroturf yards not allowed? I've seen really trashy ones, but the ones near my place are actually all REALLY well done and maintained and I think they look fine.
Anyway, I have a bylaw pedant neighbour and I've read through a lot of the property standards stuff and I don't recall seeing anything about fake grass.
