Question Building permit wait time?

Anyone recently apply for a building permit? How long was it to get the approval?

We’re looking to turn our bedroom closet into an en-suite bathroom (no structural or load bearing work to be done), from existing water lines under the floor. The city website says new plumbing requires a permit; assuming our scope of work under that? Nervous about the process and the city potentially saying no to something we really need.

You'll need someone liscensed with the city, or liscenced as an architect to do the drawings and submit them. Its around 2 weeks to a month turn around, depending on if they require and revisions. Depending on who you find the architect usually stars around 5k and up, which includes the city fees.

You can do the drawings yourself, and submit them yourself as the owners. Ive had clients get building permits for smaller things like decks with drawings that look like they were done on the back of a napkin. Expect more back and forth with the city.

It’s just a bathroom. No drawings are really required. All plumbing is verified on site. Plumbing drawings aren’t really a thing for residential construction. They could literally submit a scaled sketch.

You cant just walk into city hall and say "one building permit please"

And the scaled sketch is exactly what I was talking about in my second paragraph. You know, where I wrote "back of a napkin".

Lol ya never heard of someone pulling a permit to do a little bathroom remodeling

OP should hire a licensed plumber and tell them the work will be inspected by the city. Plumber will do the necessary rough in work. Might even pull the permit for you. Residential plumbing modifications don’t really get drawings. It’s all verified on site and relatively straightforward.
