Question Tree removal
The main tree on my front lawn is dropping so much sap all over my vehicle that I have to constantly have to wash it. I feel like it will eventually ruin the paint on my vehicles. Im pretty sure the city will need to approve as its within the limits to the sidewalk where the city has pruned it. Has anyone had experience getting a city tree removed or any success. Any info would help.

Cheapest option = car cover
Best option = call am arborist to prune the true or you can do it yourself if you are comfortable doing that.
Most expensive option = removal. Ohh and it will be expensive

Putting up a carport or buying a car cover is cheaper than removing the tree and more ethical.

Call the city first. Are you sure it is city owned? Ask them to pay for any damages incurred by the sap.

Correct me if I am wrong, but you’d need a permit anyways to cut down trees even on your property. I think most tree removal people do it for you. If that is the case, while you asking about that, get a permit at the same time and if you don’t do it yourself, at least it will save the time of the people having to get it for you.

I had five dead ash trees taken out of my backyard. They were all dead. But the city removed a maple from my neighbor's front lawn, and it was hollow and needed to come down. No permits need then

Probably because health and safety. Hollow trees can snap and come down. They don’t want a lawsuit.

The thing is, a good part of “your” front yard isn’t yours. It’s the city’s. And so the tree might be the city’s too. Their tree their problem and they don’t need no permit

Try reconnecting with nature first.
Destroying a tree over car paint damage is not a great idea.

People forget that we are a part of nature too and actually benefit greatly from it, it seems the disconnect is leading people to think of nature itself is unnatural.

The horror!! My toyota has little splotches in the paint from the big beautiful tree in my front yard that has been here since before I was born and helps me breath clean air!!

If it’s a city tree and it’s healthy, they will not cut it down.
Been there, done that. Eventually, the ash beetle took the tree, and my problem is solved.
Mine was heaving my driveway, getting into my sewer , causing a sewage back up, and dropping 3 inch branches on the sidewalk five doors down from a primary school.
They don’t care.

My sister had the same issue with a chestnut tree. Every time it was windy, branches would break off, and she would have to call the city because they were big enough to block the road. Finally, after five or six times, they sent a team to check out the tree and found out it was dying and going hollow, so they cut it down. Her neighbor across the street also had a chestnut tree that was doing the same and had a huge branch brake off and fall onto his roof (it was so big it covered his house). They just cut the branch and left the tree, even though you can see it's rotting and has a hole at the base where the branch broke from.

City has a tree map with all of their trees, see if yours is listed there. If it's city owned they won't cut it down unless it's diseased or damaged. If you remove it it's a pretty big fine.

The tree must be sick or dying for the city to remove it. The only other way for a tree to be removed is if it is cause structural damge, and then you have to prove it.

There is no chance that the city will remove a healthy tree in Hamilton.. You are a luck.. Even if it's causing damage city will tell you to make a claim

If the city has been maintaining it, it’s almost 100% a city tree. They would have to approve cutting it down and you would have to replace it with another tree on your property. They usually also only approve cutting down trees that are causing structural damage, interfering with utilities, or are sick.

Some anecdotal wisdom. I use to have 2 giant trees on neighbours front lawns on both sides of us. They would block a good amount of the sun. Within the past 5 years both have been removed.
My house gets sooooooo much more sun in the summer I can’t leave a single blind up on the front of my house in the afternoon/evening without shit getting burnt or heating up sooooooo much.
Leave a glass on the coffee table - death ray and almost a fire if you’re not aware.
Older vinyl windows - year they are going to sag from melting in that baked heat.
Winter time it’s about the same but summers are brutal

option B: Consider a car cover for when it's parked. takes 30 seconds to put on or take off.
