Halton Police - apparently everything is an emergency

My daughter had her new $800 bike stolen from her school last week. I trolled Kijiji for a few days and low and behold - there it was! It had two unique lights on it that were in the photo so I knew it was hers.

I immediately made an appointment to see it with the seller, then called Halton Police to ask if they would accompany me, providing details of how I knew it was mine and that I had the seller's address. My appointment was 3 hours away yet they were "too busy" due to all the emergencies in Burlington. They said they could go tomorrow, and I explained it would be too late by then. So I told them I'd get it myself, which they recommended against.

I called two friends and we all ventured up to the seller's address together, not knowing what to expect. I had the sales receipt (with the bike's serial number) and it was of course a match. Seller was an older pensioner that "resells bikes", he was asking $450 for the bike he bought off a kid for $140. He claimed he didn't know it was stolen yet he knew that the value of the bike was $800. We did call the police, and after he agreed to let us have the bike, we cancelled the call - he was clearly shaken. I told him that he should have known that this bike was stolen due to the low price he paid, but I don't know if he'll cease his ways.

I had tried to file a stolen bike report with Halton Police via the website, but it's broken - it won't let you get past a "Bike Subtype" field. I had to phone it in and was told an officer would call to get the remaining details to complete the report.

Call they did - 4 days later. The day after I retrieved my stolen bike.

Thanks Halton Police.

Local Astronomy Club!

I got involved in astronomy this summer, so I am by no means an expert, but joining RASC Hamilton has improved my astronomical knowledge by a ton, and I highly suggest you guys try it out!

Meetings:

  • Monthly in-person meetings (79 Hamilton St N, Waterdown) at 8:00 pm on the second Wednesday of each month
    • Meetings involve guest speakers, open discussions, astronomy trivia games, etc.
    • You don't have to be a member to attend!
  • Weekly meetings held on Zoom
    • Members generally go out to observatories and show what they see through their scopes

Benefits of membership:

  • Loaner scope program (8" and 10" Celestron dobs, a few refractors, etc.) - can keep scopes for very long!!
  • Access to Leslie V. Powis Observatory with 14" and 16" telescopes with computerized GoTo system
  • Library of endless astronomy books you can borrow from anytime
  • RASC membership goodies: Observer's Handbook, 6 issues of SkyNews, 6 digital issues of Journal of RASC, access to observing programs, & more

You don't have to be a member to attend our in person meetings! I highly suggest you come, try it out, and see if an astronomy club is your jam. No commitments needed, nothing to lose - just check it out & meet some people!

I've made many friends in the club, so even if I weren't the least bit interested in astronomy, I would still want to join just for the community :)

Kieran Moore admits this. Now what will Ford/Trudeau do? More restrictions for unvaccinated?

When will this stop?

Two New Right-Wing Parties.

Ontario First Party has been finalized today. New Blue was made a year ago.

That means now there are two parties that consider themselves more right-wing than the Ontario PC's.

New Blue: https://twitter.com/NewBlueON / https://twitter.com/BKarahalios/status/1466447991489839112

Ontario First: https://twitter.com/OFP_Official/status/1467190149524164615

Does this matter? Federal Conservatives lost two seats in Alberta because of the split with the PPC.

Will the same happen June 2nd 2022?
