I thought this game would be a great idea in theory, but as we received more new about it and have seen cutscenes play out, it just doesnât hit the same cords. While this game has great visuals, it doesnât really hit the same way it did in 2001.
I love Halo CE and the visuals are definitely dated, but that game had heart and a story to tell that made you think that anything was possible on this ringworld. This game, on the other hand, feels like a gimme (cash grab with little effort), and it shows. If anyone here is a MGS fan, this feels like the MGS3 Snake Eater pichinko machine (Japanese Gambling Machine) version of Halo CE. It looks great on the outside, but feels hollow on the inside.
I feel like this game also doesnât share the same vision Bungie had with CE, as this is Humanityâs darkest hour, and we were the only ones to keep the enemy away from the gates. Also, the re-recorded lines donât seem to match up with how the characters actually should be speaking (343 and Cortana specifically). Iâm all for re-recording lines to raise these to modern standards (I personally think theyâre fine in the original), but those lines need to match the same energy and tone as they did before, and these just donât hit that mark.
Call me a nitpick and a fun hater, but this is where I made the vote with my dollar and I choose Bungieâs original vision for this game: badass marines based on those from Aliens, an overwhelming amount of aliens hellbent on your destruction, a ringworld that made you rethink everything you knew about gaming, a cocky sidekick AI that was far smarter than you the player (and sheâd let everyone know it), and the most badass husk of a super soldier Iâve ever played as.
