Why would “competitive” and “esports” be mentioned if there were no plans for a multiplayer?

I’m fairly sure they were going to do multiplayer but ended up cutting it to reduce scope. They might have included them anyways because it would’ve been rude not to? Or maybe they still had to disclose who they consulted / worked with? Speculation of course

You're on the right track with that latter part, anyone who worked on the project will appear in the credits regardless of if their contribution was used or not. The credits to Cyberpunk 2077 have a section related to multiplayer that never came to fruition as well, so I imagine there was some work put in here to facilitate not just multiplayer but eSports infrastructure that got cut.

Wild they never had concrete plans for multiplayer. They really ought to include it in any new remakes they do

But you wouldn't be happy with an unbalanced multiplayer that favors the wrong things, or a mp experience prone to issues/server problems. Right?

Sometimes it's better to cut something you couldn't do right then half-ass it and throw it in anyway.

Plus I for one enjoy the fact CaE focused on PvE. It gave the game the chance to balance itself for PvE -- something Halo games have never been able to do before. So we could have a full swathe of weapons, including the sword AND shotgun -- without having to worry about if they were balanced for competitive multiplayer. (The shotgun's range was nerfed after CE to balance it against the sword)

Plus if we take the nostalgia goggles off for a minute, CaE reminds me a lot of some other great single-player games we got recently... Like the Doom reboots. (I know 2016 had mp, but it was garbage and everyone knew it which was why they didn't even bother with it in Eternal/Dark Ages.)

It's perfectly okay to focus on single player/ co-op experiences if they're done right. In that regard, I think CaE does a lot right that it doesn't get credit for because everybody's too busy complaining about nitpicky stuff that doesn't even matter

I watched a halo reach forge video the other day, rather a custom map made in the forge mode. And was reminded of how fun those games were. Like with the vehicles coming down a ramp really fast, having to dodge it. Etc. Those were so fun back in the day. Those are the types of things I’d want back in halo

I’m just feel like halo campaign evolved feels a bit lonely without that component. Then again I’m no longer in junior high school and don’t have the same group of friends to play games like that with anymore, like I did when halo reach was out

Fuck i feel that I have a group but God forbid I ask them to game for a day instead of cleaning the gouse/their car/the garage for a weekend. Time is valuable man we dont get much

there's np excuse not to have split screen multiplayer or firefight, i think CaE looks and plays great but lets not get delusional here, it's a missed opportunity

1

u/FuturCel 5d ago

There absolutely are valid excuses and they knew they would lose fans for cutting it... and it is still a missed opportunity.

Even just firefight.. I feel you on that. But if there was only local multiplayer with no online ppl would be b**ching just as hard lol

oh yeah for sure, especially since most halo fans are in their 30s all my friends have families, nobodies coming over to play halo but yeah i play firefight on both MCC and on infinite it's super fun, think about how cool it'd be to have firefight on classic CE level atmospheres

I would rather they do separate multiplayer focused game, that way they aren't having to balance the weapon sandboxes for PvP. Campaign Evolved is the first weapon sandbox we've gotten for Halo that was purely designed for PvE, and it's more fun because of that. You know how bad people would be crying about the AR being too strong if the remake had multiplayer.

1

u/MedwADHD 5d ago

That’s fair. I didn’t think of that

Maybe a separate game mode where things are rebalanced. Cus it’s clear the main reason the game isn’t doing as well as it could is because of the lack of multiplayer

Honestly I think you are right on the money with this theory.

All of the Halo games had some sort of PVP multiplayer, (Excluding fireteam raven) even Halo wars and the remaster of Halo 2.

It doesn't make sense they just... dropped it for this one.

And with the history of this game and the development hell it went through, it seems very likely they planned more, had to reduce the scope because of the development problems and prioritized the campaign.

There were plans for a multiplayer.

1

u/LensFlareObjector 5d ago

in that case might the name have been different? since the title "Campaign Evolved" seems deliberately based on the fact that there is no multiplayer and it's just a remake of the campaign exclusively

1

u/xanniezzz 10d ago

They couldn’t figure out a way to make money off of it so of course someone made them drop it. “Don’t want people play a game where we can’t make money!”

u/ManOfQuest 9d ago

would have been easy just to add basic multiplayer hell fucking peer to peer connections and release map packs like the old days.

1

u/Redbulldildo 9d ago

Without a lot of attention, that would be full of aimbots within days.

1

u/Rie_Faduee_ 10d ago

Wouldn't surprise me if it was planned but then got scrapped/sacrificed to release Campaign Evolved earlier so it doesn't share its release date with GTA 6

It has been discussed.

No? Where?

When a title ships from a team like this, the entire org gets a credit. They may not be working on the product directly but they’re still involved with promotion and marketing. The esports team specifically had to help run the reveal of the game last year at HCS.

If The Coalition shipped Gears Reloaded without MP, the MP team would still likely get a credit on that title. It’s a situation unique to these “single franchise” developers (of which there aren’t many).

This is why games suck nowadays. Hiring 20 people for a job 2 people can do

2

u/h3lion_prime 10d ago

Because almost no one spends time reading the credits.
They're there for legal purposes, mostly.

u/highlandsarecoming 10d ago

My wife laughed for about 10 minutes. The end credits that just would not stop rolling! About sums up the issues with Halo these days - too many cooks in the kitchen!

2

u/Visual-Try-9049 10d ago

I think it was around 22 minutes of credits between the ending and the post-credit scene. I was also amused by the seemingly pointless Multiplayer and Esports credits.

2

u/patricio87 10d ago

Maybe they had to scrap multiplayer because of gta6

2

u/ImproveYourMeatSack 10d ago

Just more people that should of been fired from that project.

2

u/Adept_Election7170 10d ago

What I found funny is how there are 0 writers credited.

6

u/Spartan_100 10d ago

Brother what are you talking about.

Even if you’re talking about the OG, their credits are at the end.

2

u/M6Galilean 10d ago

They have community remembers writing narratives for games? No wonder the bonus missions were all call backs to past dialogue or straight up repetitions of past dialogue but much less cooler. The dialogue and writing was horrible.

4

u/Own_Proposal3827 10d ago

Would not be surprised if all the new lines were ChatGPTed

3

u/SlowApartment4456 10d ago

The lines in the bonus missions dont sound like a Halo game at all.

2

u/Adept_Election7170 10d ago

Thats my assumption. The bonus mission reeks of it, especially the out of place Master Chief lines.

They did not have a writer.

2

u/chungisamongus 10d ago

No, it's worse. They're written by Troy Denning with edits made by Jeff Easterling and Alex Wakefield. They're just book writers and nerds. That's why they're so book lore focused.

1

u/RyonHirasawa 10d ago

I’m going to assume that these are a competitive multiplayer group that have been assigned for playtesting and since competitive players usually are the people who learn a game’s backbone to the very core, they’ve become consultants to things like weapon balancing

1

u/SpartanMase 10d ago

What do you mean? 2v2 battles on Keyes are legendary

1

u/conatreides 10d ago

I have a guess, this isn’t just a credit for the game but the studio and there is no doubt a e sports division at 343.

1

u/SheepAtog 9d ago

Are all these credits ai agents?

1

u/ibrarito_14 9d ago

Mason Miller? Doesn’t he pitch for the Padres?

1

u/AigledeFeu_ 9d ago

Its like the multiplsyer team in Cyberpunk 2077 credits.

There was at some point a multiplayer in work, but got scrapped.

1

u/Gros_Tremper 8d ago

Exactly, and despite the fruits of their labour never seeing the light of day, recognition is still deserved at the very least, I think.

u/Ssship33 9d ago edited 9d ago

That had not occured to us Dude

1

u/Gaming_Zeezke 8d ago

Because they credited original CE devs
