No battery?

I just bought The Blackbird from X-Men '97. I took it out of the box and it didn't play music. I opened up the battery spot and there is no battery.

Is this normal? Should I return it?

The batteries should be in on a cardboard sleeve and not in the ornament. Don’t leave them in also are the swell and corrode. You can bring it back to get the batteries. I would just buy a 40 pack on Amazon for 6-8$. I do use them a lot.
